Surprisingly the crappy looking exorcism movie, The Rite, took the top spot at the box office this weekend. The movie took in just over $15 million but the only redeeming thing I saw from it this weekend at work was Anthony Hopkins having tons of fun acting like demon. Last week’s number one, No Strings Attached, dropped down to second with $13.6 million while the other new release, The Mechanic, came in third with $11.5 million. The Green Hornet and The King’s Speech rounded out the top 5. The Dilemna had a pretty big drop, going from third to seventh over the weekend while 127 Hours finally got a fairly wide release and went from 34th to 14th. This weekend we’ll see if James Cameron 3D can bring in the big bucks again with the cave thriller Sanctum.
