Moneyball Trailer

Moneyball, based on the book by Michael Lewis, has had an interesting road to being adapted to a film.  Steven Soderbergh was originally supposed to direct the movie but just a few days before shooting was supposed to start, Sony put the movie on hold.  Soderbergh had some crazy ideas that Sony felt wouldn’t work with the more straight forward sports movie they wanted to make.  Aaron Sorkin was called in to rewrite the script and Bennett Miller, who previously made Capote, was brought in to direct.  The movie is set to come out this September and it follows the true story of Oakland A’s manager Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt) as he’s faced with the dilemna of creating a competitive baseball team with a limited budget.  With the help of a brilliant young statistician (played by Jonah Hill) Beane employed a lot of strategies that conflicted with status quo of drafting and managing in baseball.  Phillip Seymour Hoffman co-stars as the A’s manager Art Howe. It doesn’t sound like the most interesting story for a movie but I thought the same thing about The Social Network and that turned out pretty well so I’m willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt.  Check out the trailer below.
