Battle at the Box Office 3/26

So the hype for Hunger Games has been thoroughly justified as it had an astounding opening weekend of $152.5 million, the third highest in history just a few million behind The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.  The movie is also, not surprisingly, the highest ever opening for Lionsgate.  Expect sequels Catching Fire and Mockingjay to be hot on The Hunger Games heels in the next couple of years.  Basically a speck in the distance was second place, 21 Jump Street which made another $20.5 million and putting it at a respectable $70 million in total.  The Lorax held strong in third place with $13.1 million.  John Carter and Act of Valor rounded out the top 5.  In other box office news, anti-abortion propaganda movie “October Sky”, from the same studio that brought you such gems as Fireproof and Courageous, broke into the top ten at eighth place with $1.7 million.  Hunger Games should have no problem holding onto the top spot this coming weekend.
