The first trailer for the upcoming reboot/retry of Judge Dredd is finally here and it will hopefully erase the taste of the Stallone non-classic from everyone memory. Karl Urban becomes the Law as Dredd, who is called in to stop a ruthless drug lord (Lena Headey), who is distributing a new, mind altering drug called Slo Mo. Dredd and a rookie Judge (Olivia Thirlby) head to the drug lord’s apartment complex but it gets locked down and every single scumbag in the buildings 100 floors are gunning for the judges. A lot of sites have made the observation that this is basically the exact same plot as the critically acclaimed action hit, The Raid: Redemption. I haven’t seen The Raid yet (it’s at the top of my want to see list) but Dredd looks pretty good, I appreciate the fact that there are no wacky sidekicks and they’ve emphasized the fact that Dredd will not take his helmet off, so it seems like the people making it actually have an idea of where the character came from. The movie is out in September and you can check out the trailer below.
