Usually the first trailer for a movie is a short :30 second teaser but when your movie is covering thousands of years of human history, you need an almost six minute first trailer. Such is the case with Cloud Atlas, the latest from the Wachowskis, who are teaming with Tom Tykwer, director of Run Lola Run. Based on the best selling novel, Cloud Atlas follows a number of different stories ranging from prehistoric to colonial to the far flung, anime inspired future and it’s implied that they are all influenced and affected by each other. Tom Hanks stars and different versions of himself appear in the various ages of the movie along with Halle Berry and Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent, James D’Arcy, Ben Whishaw, Zhou Xun and Keith David co-star. I pretty much hated Speed Racer, the last Wachowski movie but it has an extremely rabid defense force. Cloud Atlas looks much more interesting and hopefully they can go back to the balance of action/philosophy of the first Matrix and the not the senseless action of Speed Racer and the up it’s own assness of The Matrix sequels. Check out the trailer below and the movie is out next year.
