Battle at the Box Office 10/08

People rightfully love seeing Liam Neeson kicking ass, as evidenced by Taken 2′s $50 million opening weekend, double the original Taken’s opening of $24.7 million.  Despite horrible critical reviews, the audience reception was pretty positive, so it should be able to keep up it’s performance at least for next weekend.  Second place went to Hotel Transylvania, which dropped down slightly with $26.3 million, and bringing it’s total to $76 million.  Pitch Perfect expanded nationwide and took third place with $14.7 million.  Looper and Frankenweenie rounded out the top 5, with the latter being one of the weaker openings for Tim Burton and gives ParaNorman the win for this year’s stop motion family horror battle.  Everything else pretty much slid down the usual number of spots to accommodate the new releases.
