Joss Whedon Wants to Make a Batman Movie!

Joss_WhedonOn May 29 2013, the Film Society of Lincoln Center hosted “An Evening with Joss Whedon,” which we weren’t invited to, but we’re sure was pretty cool. Though he was there primarily to screen his new adaption of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, the real news, for my money, is what was discussed during the post-screening Q & A session.

Sure, Mr. Whedon talked about video games. And yes, he even mentioned that he would love to revisit Firefly, though he is worried that even if a new incarnation is “great” it may not be “the same”. He even addressed the legal pretzel that is the rights to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the forthcoming Avengers 2.

But that’s not all.

Joss was also asked which Marvel character he’d like to tackle next. The answer may surprise you, as it’s not even a Marvel character, but someone near and dear to our hearts.

This Guy.
This Guy.

That’s right, true believers! Marvel’s go-to guy for making an ass-ton of money with awesome movies wants to get his hands on DC’s Dark Knight Detective, Batman!

Mr. Whedon had this to say:

“If I could get my hands on absolutely anybody it would be Batman. (audience applause) He’s a Marvel character in the DC universe.”

While this is certainly a pretty bold statement to make for someone so deeply involved with Marvel’s film and television endeavors, I definitely respect his honesty as a fan and would absolutely be open to his vision for a Batman film, or even better, television series (animated or otherwise). We know that the future of the Batman franchise is safe, even though it is uncertain at the moment. Maybe a Batman reboot in the new DC Cinematic Universe written and directed by Joss Whedon would be just the jolt of energy the franchise would need right out of the gate?

Of course, only time will tell, but bet your bottom dollar that we will be sure to keep you in-the-know! In the meantime, what do you think of this news? Let us know in the comments!
