What the Rumored ‘Man of Steel’ Easter Eggs Could Mean for the DC Cinematic Universe

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a Superman reboot by the name of Man of Steel coming to theaters in a little over a week. If you aren’t excited, well, frankly, you aren’t paying attention.

Superman must OWN the Kent family egg hunts.

Though the internet has been full of rumors and alleged spoilers for some time now, this one, which comes to us from Omelete (via Business Insider), is actually straight from the director himself, Zack Snyder. There are definite **SPOILERS** ahead, so don’t say we didn’t warn you. While they won’t ruin the film’s plot, they may take away from the awesomeness of the moment.

We’re serious!

SPOILER:

During Zod’s attack on planet Earth, one of the casualties is a satellite with the Wayne Enterprises logo on it.

Probably this.
Probably this.

While Mr. Snyder claims that this is simply a “nod” to the work that his dear friend Chris Nolan has done in Gotham, I can’t help but feel as though the implications of including this particular easter egg are much bigger that eliciting a smile from fans. What exactly are these implications, you ask? Well, for my money, there are two ways that this can go:

Scenario A: Wayne Enterprises is a company that exists in this universe but is not currently headed by Bruce, as, at this point in the timeline, he is off training to become Batman and has not returned to Gotham. Alternatively, he could have returned to Gotham but not yet had his first outing (or been established) as Batman.

Scenario B: Man of Steel, and thus, the greater DC Cinematic Universe, takes place in the “Nolan Universe” established in the Dark Knight Trilogy.

Or this.
Or this.

If we’re talking Scenario A, then I’d have to assume that Batman will be rebooted immediately following Man of Steel, or, at the very least, shortly thereafter. If we’re talking Scenario B, then I’d have to imagine that Batman, by and large, will be left out of this particular iteration of the DC Cinematic Universe, perhaps to be resurrected (literally) for the looming Justice League film. Of course, there’s always Robin Blake, too.

Regardless of the execution, it’s nice to know that, if nothing else, there’s at least one major DC Universe easter egg in Man of Steel. But if you take a look at the inclusion of Blaze Comics in a recent trailer, as well as all of the setups in the prequel comic (including Hawkman and Supergirl), it could be that Man of Steel is tying the DC Cinematic (and possibly television) Universe together quite nicely.

Like it or not, we’ll find out on June 14th 2013, when Man of Steel soars into theaters.

What do you think of this easter egg news? Do you think it’s a cool idea, or should they keep it simple and focus on Superman only? Let us know in the comments!
