It was a pretty slow weekend at the box office this weekend but Prisoners still managed a solid $20.8 million and took the top spot away from Insidious Chapter 2. Prisoners was on par with Warner Bro. other dramas released this time in the last few years, like Argo, The Town and Contagion. Insidious Chapter 2 dropped more than 50% from last week’s first place weekend but it’s still made more in two weeks than the original made in it’s entire run. The Conjuring will most likely end up being the best of director James Wan’s two horror movies this year. The Family took third with another $7 million and the incredibly strong Spanish movie, Instructions Not Included, moved up to fourth place. In fifth place and bombing was Battle of the Year, which made only $4.6 million and nowhere near any of the Step Movies or any other recent dance movies. Down in ninth place, the 3D re-release of The Wizard of Oz made $3 million in 318 theaters, better than a lot of the recent 3D re-releases. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 might be poised for a big weekend as it’s been at least a month since a big kids movie came out and there’s three other movies coming out or expanding as well.
