Battle at the Box Office 4/27

furious-7-10

For the fourth and final week, Furious 7 took the top spot at the box office with another $18.3 million and it’s now the fifth highest grossing movie of all time, passing Frozen and just behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 with $1.3 billion.  Furious 7 has made $320.5 million domestically so far.

Paul Blart 2 stayed in second with another $15.5 million and has made $44 million in it’s two weeks out, possibly boosted by it’s upgrade to 4% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Age of Adaline opened in third place with $14.4 million, which is better than the similarly fantastical romantic movie last year, Winter’s Tale, and higher than the recent Nicholas Sparks movie, The Longest Ride, which made $13 million it’s opening weekend and is now seventh place.

Home and Unfriended rounded out the top 5, with the latter dropping 61% from last weekend with $6.2 million.

Ex Machina expanded wide this past weekend and took sixth with $5.4 million, which is one of the best limited to wide releases of the year and the best weekend ever for relatively new distributor A24.

Christian aimed Little Boy bombed with a terrible $2.8 million, which is almost a million off from Do You Believe? from earlier this year and worse than almost all of last year’s Christian movies except The Identical.

In a preview of this coming weekend’s madness, Age of Ultron opened in 44 countries and made over $200 million, opening in most of them above The Avengers and Iron Man 3, pretty much guaranteeing this will be well over $1 billion in no time.
