Musical Montage: Smash Mouth “All Star”

Smash Mouth’s “All Star” has had an interesting journey in the world of movies after it became inescapable in 1999.  It was originally featured in the movie Mystery Men, and the official music video below features Ben Stiller, William H. Macy, Paul Reubens, Kel Mitchell, Doug Jones, Janeane Garafolo and Hank Azaria reprising their roles from the movie as they host a try out of new members to their superhero team and run into the band at a fire and in an underground tunnel.  The song was probably most widely heard in the first Shrek movie and it also closed out the movie Rat Race in 2001, when the contestants arrive at a Smash Mouth concert.  The song seemed to be heard every 5 minutes on the radio from 1999 to the early 2000’s and reached #2 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart and #4 on the Hot 100.  Check out the official music video below.
