- MacGyver reboot in the works: CBS is looking to reboot the classic 80’s adventure series with James Wan and Henry Winkler serving as executive producers. The show will follow a younger MacGyver than was on the 80’s show and he’ll be recruited by a secret organization who needs his improvisation skills to solve various missions.
- ABC developing a Damage Control series: Adding another Marvel series to their lineup, ABC is working on a comedy series set in the MCU that follows Damage Control, the team who comes in after the major battles of the Marvel Universe to clean up and rebuild.
- Lethal Weapon TV reboot in the works: Matt Miller, former executive producer of Chuck, is now working on bringing a new version of Lethal Weapon to the small screen. This new show would foll Riggs, who is formerly a Texas cop and Navy SEAL, who moves to LA after his wife and child are murdered and is partnered with older cop Murtaugh, who needs to avoid any stress do to his heart condition.
- Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson join Assassin’s Creed: Adding to already stellar cast of Assassin’s Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, is Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson in unknown roles.
- Kiefer Sutherland says he’s done with 24: There’s still talk of a spin-off of 24 but recently Kiefer Sutherland said that he’s 100% done playing Jack Bauer, although he did say the same thing before the reboot last year.
- Graceland cancelled by USA: The “grittiest” USA show has been cancelled after wrapping up it’s third season this year, probably because the network now has Mr. Robot bringing in both the audience and critical acclaim.
- Paramount wants to remake The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence: One of the greatest westerns of all time, originally starring John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin, Paramount is starting to develop a remake of it and it may update the setting to possibly the 80’s.
- Sony developing an animated Ghostbusters movie: Along with Paul Feig’s reboot and a possible second movie featuring a team led by Channing Tatum, there’s now an animated movie in the works at Sony with original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman helping. It’s not clear if it will follow the original team or be something new.
- XXX sequel title revealed: Vin Diesel revealed in a post on his Facebook page that the title of the upcoming third xXx movie will be “Xander Returns”. It could arrive either late next year or early 2017.
- El Rey Network picks up a bunch of broadcast rights: El Rey Network has recently signed a deal to bolster their original programming with the rights to some recent and classic shows. Reruns of Freddy’s Nightmares, The Twilight Zone (2002 version), V: The Series and the original miniseries, Mortal Kombat: Conquest, Night Visions, Almost Human and Constantine.
- Terminator sequel plans on hold: Despite spectacular performances overseas, the sequels to Terminator: Genisys are apparently on “indefinite hold” over at Paramount. The rights will revert back to James Cameron in 2019.
- HBO in early talks for a Watchmen TV series: Zack Snyder is apparently in early talks with HBO to bring Watchmen to the cable network as a series, which many would argue it should have been originally. It’s not clear if it would be a sequel series to the movie, a prequel possibly using the recent Before Watchmen stories or a redo of the original comic.
- Serial podcast becoming a TV series: The extremely popular Serial podcast, which followed the hosts going back and looking at evidence and the details of the murder of Hae Min Lee in 1999, is becoming a TV show with Phil Lord and Chris Miller producing. A second season of the podcast is set to begin soon looking into the case of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was held for five years by the Taliban.
- Pacific Rim 2 offiically removed from Universal’s lineup: Universal has officially removed Pacific Rim 2 from their release calendar and have moved Pitch Perfect 3 into it’s 2017 slot. Guillermo Del Toro has said he’s still working on the movie but it’s unclear if or when we’ll see the sequel.
- Maniac Cop remake gets a director: Produced by Nicholas Winding Refn and written by legendary comic writer Ed Brubaker, the new Maniac Cop remake will be directed by John Hyams, who most recently directed Universal Soldier: Regeneration and Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.
- Vin Diesel confirms one final Fast & Furious trilogy: Diesel was on Facebook saying that he and Universal are still looking for a director for Furious 8 and he confirmed that there will be one final trilogy to close out the series.
- Fear the Walking Dead airplane special debuts this weekend: To go along with the season finale of Fear the Walking Dead on AMC, over on AMC.com, there will be a web special episode featuring a zombie outbreak on an airliner. The special will be up on October 4th and also air in two parts between the commercials of the season six premiere of The Walking Dead proper.
- Home Alone coming back to theaters this November: To celebrate it’s 25th anniversary, Home Alone will be returning to select theaters on November 8th and 11th in select theaters. - Playmobil movie coming: The somewhat rival to Lego is developing it’s own movie and it recently got a title with Playmobil: Robbers, Thieves and Rebels. It’s not clear what Playmobil theme the movie will be based on or if it will be a mashup like The Lego Movie but if it’s successful, Playmobil wants to develop a trilogy.
- Amazon picks up the Jack Ryan series: The recently announced Jack Ryan series, developed by Michael Bay and Carlton Cuse, has been picked up by Amazon and will seemingly skip their pilot program and go directly to series.
- Death Note movie gets it’s lead: The adaptation of the popular anime is being directed by The Guest and You’re Next director Adam Windgard and Nat Wolff, of The Intern and Paper Towns this year, will be starring as the main character, who discovers a notebook that allows him to kill anyone in the world just by writing down their name and picturing their face.
