  • Madballs returning with a new comic and toyline: The 80’s toyline is returning in a four issue mini-series from Roar Comics and Mondo will be releasing a new series of toys.
  • New Lego Star Wars series coming to Disney XD: A series of shorts featuring the characters from The Force Awakens called The Resistance Rises will start airing on Disney XD on February 15th after the series finale of Gravity Falls, with the first episode following Poe Dameron on a mission to rescue Admiral Ackbar.  This summer, there will also be a full series called The Freemaker Adventures that will follow a family of scavengers named the Freemakers, who uncover an ancient artifact, the Kyber saber and their youngest child becomes connected to the Force through it.
  • Donnie Yen replacing Jet Li in xXx 3: Jet Li has left the upcoming Vin Diesel sequel but fellow martial arts star Donnie Yen has stepped up to replace him as probably one of the main villains up against Xander Cage.
  • Fox orders a Lethal Weapon series: Fox has ordered a new series based on the Lethal Weapon films and Damon Wayans will co-star as Murtaugh.  McG will direct the pilot.
  • The Maltese Falcon returning to theaters for it’s 75th anniversaryFathom Events will bring back the noir classic The Maltese Falcon for it’s 75th anniversary in October.  The movie will be available for a very limited run in about 650 theaters nationwide.
  • Amazon picks up the new Thunderbirds series: Amazon has picked up the rebooted Thunderbirds series that aired on ITV in the UK and will start airing the first of four, 15 episode seasons later this year on Amazon Instant Video.
  • Ash vs Evil Dead adds two new characters for Season 2: Lee Majors will guest star next season as Ash’s father and Ted Raimi will guest star as Ash’s childhood friend.
  • Jennifer Jason Leigh co-starring in next Alex Garland film: The Hateful Eight co-star has signed on to co-star in the next film from Ex Machina’s Alex Garland called Annihilation.  Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman will co-star with Leigh and the movie is based on a novel where a crew of women are sent to survey a mysterious area called “Area X” that doesn’t follow the laws of physics and all previous expeditions have never returned.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog movie coming in 2018: Sega and Sony Pictures are teaming up to bring Sonic to the big screen in 2018 with a live action/CG hybrid movie featuring the famous hedgehog.  There’s no details about if it will based on a specific game, who will write, who will direct or who will star.
  • Johnny Depp is the Invisible Man: Depp has been cast as the new Invisible Man for the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe.  It’s not clear where he will debut but The Mummy with Tom Cruise is scheduled for 2017 and The Wolf Man is scheduled for 2018.
  • Charlize Theron wanted for the villain of Furious 8: Furious 8 is looking for a female villain to take on Dom and the crew in NYC and Universal is apparently in talks or looking to get Charlize Theron in the role after her incredible performance as Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road.
  • Riverdale show casts it’s Betty and Jughead: CW’s reboot of Archie has cast it’s Betty and Jughead with Lili Reinhardt playing Betty and Cole Sprouse playing Jughead.  The show is being showrun by Flash/Supergirl/Arrow’s Greg Berlanti.
  • New showrunner revealed for new Star Trek showBryan Fuller, of Pushing Daisies and Hannibal, will be showrunning the new Star Trek series that is coming next year to CBS’ “All Access” streaming service.
  • Lionsgate working on new Saw movie: Lionsgate is moving forward with Saw: Legacy, which will be the 8th entry in the series.  Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, who have written horror movies like Sorority Row and Piranha 3D, have been hired to write a script.
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child coming in book form: The play Harry Potter and the Curse Child is coming in book form this summer to coincide with the debut of the play on London’s West End.  It will not be a novel but the script of the play and should arrive in digital and hardcover on July 31st.
  • “Expendables of Horror” in the works: Based on an idea from the late Gunnar Hansen, Death House will bring together a who’s who of horror like The Expendables did for action with Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Danny Trejo, Doug Bradley, Bill Moseley, Michael Berryman, Dee Wallace, Barbara Crampton, Ken Foree and more all being featured and the movie is set in an Area 51 like facility where “the Five Evils”, the absolute worst of the worst of humanity are held.  A couple of government agents are getting a tour when the facility breaks down and the inmates are all unleashed.
  • Titanfall TV series may be on the way: Jesse Stern, writer of the upcoming Titanfall 2’s single player campaign, hinted that Respawn may be working with Lionsgate on creating a TV series based on the game series.
