Mel Gibson Returns Behind the Camera with Hacksaw Ridge (Trailer)

It’s been ten years since Mel Gibson was the behind the camera for 2006’s Apocalypto and things have been a little rough for him in the interim but he’s back in the director’s chair for this fall’s Hacksaw Ridge.  Set in the Pacific during World War II, Andrew Garfield plays Desmond Doss, who refused to use a weapon because of his religious beliefs and served as an unarmed medic.  In the battle of Okinawa, Allied forces had to make a grueling climb up a cliff face to take on the Japanese forces dug in on top.  Doss made the climb dozens of time and went deep into enemy territory to pull back 75 wounded and earned himself the Medal of Honor.  Sam Worthington, Vince Vaughn, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer and Hugo Weaving co-star.  The warfare looks like typical gritty, brutal Gibson but the messaging looks a little heavy handed, like Vince Vaughn’s asshole of a drill sergeant but Doss’ story is incredible, so hopefully it will translate to the big screen.  It’s out on November 4th and you can check out the trailer below.
