- Ducktales cast revealed: The cast of the new Ducktales was revealed this week with David Tennant as Uncle Scrooge, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan playing Huey, Dewey and Louie, Kate Micucci as Webby, Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley and Beck Bennett as Launchpad. No word yet on who will play Donald, but it seems like he’s going to be active more on this version instead of enlisting in the Navy in the original series. The show starts sometime next Summer.
- Unsolved Mysteries coming to Amazon Instant Video: The classic and creepy series hosted by Robert Stack is coming to Amazon streaming next year, with new updates on the cases featured in the episodes. The 2008 version of the show is already up on the site, which was hosted by the late Dennis Farina.
- Roland Emmerich directing Dark Matter adaptation: The “master” of disaster, Roland Emmerich, has signed on to direct an adaptation of the novel Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, the author of the Wayward Pines series. The book follows a college physics professor who wakes up one day and finds his life is completely changed and ends up battling an alternate universe version of himself.
- Star Trek: Discovery gets it’s lead: Sonequa Martin-Green, Sasha on The Walking Dead, has been cast as the lead of Star Trek: Discovery as an unnamed Lieutenant Commander on the titular ship. The show arrives in May on CBS’ All Access streaming service.
- Molly Ringwald playing Archie’s mom on Riverdale: The Brat Packer will be playing Mary Andrews, mother to Archie Andrews, on the upcoming CW adaptation of Archie comics. Luke Perry was previously cast as Archie’s father and the show starts early next year.
- Godzilla and Pacific Rim sequels get new titles: Godzilla 2 is now Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is now Pacific Rim: Uprising.
- RIP Alan Thicke: 2016 rears it’s ugly head hopefully for the last time as we lost Alan Thicke this week. Thicke collapsed during a hockey game with his son and had a heart attack at the hospital. Thicke was best known as Dr. Jason Seaver on Growing Pains but also hosted his own talk show, wrote various TV theme songs like the Facts of Life theme and just generally seemed like a cool guy.
- Sheriff of Nottingham cast for Robin Hood: Origins: There’s almost too many Robin Hood movies in development to keep track but Lionsgate’s version, Robin Hood: Origins, has cast Rogue One baddie Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Taron Egerton was cast as Robin previously and Jamie Foxx is playing Little John and the movie is scheduled for March 2018.
- WB announces Suicide Squad sequel: Even though it was destroyed by critics, Suicide Squad made over $745 million worldwide, so WB announced this week that sequel is in development but no other details.
- Deadshot spin-off movie in the works: Will Smith’s Deadshot will be getting his own movie but there’s not a whole lot of details about what it will be about, who else will be in it, or who will direct.
- Gotham City Sirens movie announced: WB went on a Suicide Squad news related tear this week as the movie hit on DVD/Blu Ray and the third big bit of news is that David Ayer will direct a Gotham City Sirens movie that will star Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and most likely Catwoman and Poison Ivy. The rumor is that Megan Fox may be angling to play Poison Ivy but no casting was announced. The movie is getting fast tracked but there’s no release date info.
- Hulu developing a Foxy Brown series: Hulu is looking to reboot the classic Blaxploitation series that starred Pam Grier with a new series starring Meagan Goode as Foxy Brown. The show will take place in the modern day and hopefully will copy the sort of modern Blaxploitation vibe that Luke Cage had.
- Everything is Terrible opening a Jerry Maguire pop up store: The mad geniuses at Everything is Terrible have amassed 14,000 copies of Jerry Maguire on VHS and will open video store in Los Angeles between January 13th and January 29th that will make them available to purchase. All the proceeds will go to buying more Jerrys on VHS, as their ultimate goal is to create a pyramid in the desert with them that will stand permanently.
- Netflix cancels Marco Polo: Netflix cancelled their historical drama Marco Polo after two seasons. The show was not well received and cost Netflix $200 million. It’s the first Netflix show to not get at least three seasons.
- Patrick Wilson joins Aquaman: Wilson will reteam with his Conjuring director James Wan to play Orm Marius aka Ocean Master and Aquaman’s villainous half brother in the 2018 Aquaman movie starring Jason Momoa. Ocean Master was the villain of the animated Justice League movie, Throne of Atlantis.
- Adventure Time miniseries coming that will answer mysteries: Cartoon Network announced that at the end of January next year, a new Adventure Time miniseries called Islands will air that will fill in some major backstory for Finn the Human and solve the mystery of why he’s the only human left in the Land of Ooo as Finn, Jake, BMO and Susan Strong set out across the ocean to explore new lands. The series starts on January 30th.
