- Robert Rodriguez in talks for Escape from New York remake: The long in development Escape from New York remake might be closer to reality as Robert Rodriguez may be in talks to direct. Fox has been trying to get something started since 2015 and Gerad Butler was at one point going to take over as Snake Plissken.
- Edward James Olmos joins The Predator: The Predator cast continues to grow with awesome people as Edward James Olmos has joined the cast as a “military figure” but, like most of the rest of the cast, we don’t really know what is going on in this sequel yet.
- Thank You for Smoking becoming a TV show: 2005’s Thank You For Smoking is becoming an anthology TV show in the vein of Fargo or American Horror Story as each season will tackle a new hot button issue, like gun control that would be called “Thank You For Shooting”. David Koechner represented the gun lobby in the movie but none of the cast of the movie are probably coming back.
- Maniac Cop remake greenlit: Nicholas Winding Refn’s remake of Maniac Cop is a reality now as it’s been greenlit with Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning director John Hyams at the helm and Ed Brubaker wrote the script. Refn is producing and original Maniac Cop director William Lustig is a “creative consultant”. No casting yet but the movie will feature a female cop trying to track down a rogue fellow cop who is killing innocent people.
- Netflix signs on for 4 more Adam Sandler movies: Netflix has reupped their deal with Adam Sandler for 4 more movies exclusive to the streaming platform. The Ridiculous 6 and The Do-Over were both some of Netflix’s most watched movies and a new movie called Sandy Wexler is coming out on April 14th.
- Cinemax cancels The Knick: Steven Soderbergh’s incredible, turn of the century medical drama The Knick is officially cancelled over at Cinemax. Season 2 ended a year and a half ago and Cinemax didn’t say one way or another if a new season would happen until now. Season 2 did have a pretty definitive ending event, so the third season probably would have been drastically different if it happened.
- Stallone reveals Escape Plan 2 details: In a video on his Instagram page, Stallone revealed Escape Plan 2 is officially Escape Plan 2: Hades and that, in the climax, some sort of giant robot will factor in, possibly as part of the security of whatever superprison Stallone is escaping from this time. Dave Bautista and Jesse Metcalfe are co-starring with Stallone.
- Sony announces a Silver Sable/Black Cat movie: A week after confirming the Venom movie, Sony announced another Spider-Man spin-off starring Black Cat and Silver Sable. Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy wrote the initial script and a new script will be built off of it and this movie has apperently been in development for some time. This and Venom will not be tied into the MCU like Spider-Man: Homecoming will be.
- Michael Shannon may be the front runner for Cable: Comic fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of who is playing Cable in Deadpool 2 and a new report seems to indicate that Michael Shannon may be the front runner. He’s not the only one on Fox’s radar but he’s apparently their top choice. David Harbour and Kyle Chandler were also tossed out earlier as potential candidates.
- Captain Planet will be available digitally next month: Captain Planet will be available to purchase digitally for the first time ever next month as the entire series will hit your platform of choice including Amazon, Google and iTunes.
- Robert Downey Jr is the new Doctor Dolittle: Universal is making a new version of Doctor Dolittle and RDJ has been cast in the titular role. The new movie is based on The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle novel, where the Doctor journeys around the world and under the sea to find a lost colleague with some of his animal companions.
- Terminator: Genisys follow-up dead: Despite somewhat strong performance overseas, a follow-up to Terminator: Genisys is officially dead at Paramount. The rights revert back to James Cameron in 2019 and he already said he’s working with Tim Miller for a movie that will end the franchise the proper way, so hopefully that’s the next and final Terminator project.
