If you were, for some strange reason, jonesing for the type of disaster movie pioneered by Roland Emmerich, then you are probably eagerly awaiting this fall’s Geostorm. Gerard Butler stars as scientist Jake Lawson, who runs the Earth’s system of satellite some time in the near future that allows complete control over the Earth’s weather, disabling natural disasters before they start. Of course though, something goes wrong and the weather on Earth rages out of control and threatens to destroy everything and everyone unless Jake and his brother Max (Jim Sturgess) back on the ground can stop it. Andy Garcia co-stars as the President, who has to be kidnapped National Treasure style at one point by Max with help from his girlfriend (I think?), Secret Service agent Sara Wilson (Abbie Cornish). The movie also co-stars Daniel Wu, Ed Harris, Alexandra Maria Lara, Kathryn Winnick, Eugenio Derbez, Robert Sheehan, Amr Waked and Adepero Oduye and it’s directed by Dean Devlin, who is making his directorial debut after producing almost every Roland Emmerich movie since Stargate. The movie hits on October 20th and you can check out the trailer below.
