Battle at the Box Office 11/6

Thor: Ragnorak kicked off November in spectacular fashion with $121 million for its opening weekend.  It’s the seventh highest opening ever for the MCU, topping Spider-Man: Homecoming’s $117 million and $7 million shy of Iron Man 2’s $128 million.  It’s also over $35 million more than Thor: The Dark World and it’s already close to making more than the first Thor made for it’s entire run, $181 million.  Worldwide, Thor had the biggest ever November release in China with $55.6 million and it’s combined worldwide total is just over $427 million.

In second place was A Bad Moms Christmas, taking in $17 million, which is down about $6 million from the first movie’s opening last summer.  It has direct competition this coming weekend from Daddy’s Home 2 so it may not be the slow burn hit that the first movie was, which eventually grossed over $113 million in 13 weeks.

Jigsaw dropped almost 60% from last weekend to third place with another $6.7 million, bringing it to $28.8 million for its two weeks out.  It’s already outgrossed Saw VI but it might struggle to top any of the other prior entries, especially now that Halloween is over.

Also suffering since Halloween season has ended is Boo 2! Which dropped 53% from last weekend to fourth place with $4.6 million.  Geostorm rounded out the top 5 with another $3 million, bringing its three week total up to a paltry $28 million.

Further down the charts, Suburbicon crashed and burned out of the top 10, after barely making it during its opening weekend, dropping to 13th with only $1.2 million and The Foreigner also dropped out of the top 10 as well, going from 8th to 11th.  In limited release the LBJ biopic did not make much impact, opening in 659 theaters to only $1.1 million.
