Battle at the Box Office 11/27

The Justice League was no match for a Mexican boy with a guitar and a dream as Pixar’s Coco took the top spot at the box office over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Coco made a grand total of $71.2 million having come out last week on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and it made $49 million from Friday to Sunday.  It’s the 14th best opening for Pixar between Cars 3 and Ratatouille and it was the fourth best 3 and 5 day Thanksgiving weekend opening of all time.  Compared to Disney Animation, Coco sits between Tangled and Wreck It Ralph, beating the former but coming just short of the latter’s opening weekend.

Justice League dropped 57% from last week and took in another $40.7 million, putting it over $171.5 million for it’s two weeks out but still $30 million off from where Wonder Woman was in the same time frame this summer.  Worldwide, the movie has made just over $481 million.

Wonder barely dropped off from last weekend, only losing 19% of it’s business and making another $22.3 million, bringing it to over $69.4 million for it’s two weeks out.

Thor: Ragnarok and Daddy’s Home 2 rounded out the top 5, with the former moving into the 10th slot overall for the MCU, sliding past Winter Soldier’s gross of $259.8 million with $277.5 million so far domestically.

Further down the list, lots of expansion as Denzel Washington’s Roman J. Israel, Esq. moved from four to 1,669 theaters and took ninth with $4.5 million, Three Billboards moved into 614 theaters and made $4.4 million for tenth place, pushing Lady Bird down to eleventh with $4 million despite gaining 553 theaters.
