  • Chilling Adventures of Sabrina coming to Netflix: Although it’s coming from the same team as Riverdale, Sabrina won’t be joining the Archie gang on The CW, as Netflix has given the series a 2 season order, most likely based on how popular Riverdale is on Netflix.  The series is based on the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, an extremely dark take on the Teenage Witch that dives deep into the horror and occult side of things.  No word on when it will start on Netflix.
  • Masters of the Universe gets a director: A reboot of Masters of the Universe has been in development for years, most recently with McG in the director seat.  McG left the project and now Sony has gotten David S. Goyer to direct.  Although he’s most famous for his writing credits, Goyer has directed big budget comic book action before with Blade: Trinity, which granted does not give high hopes for this new He-Man.
  • Netflix renewals: Netflix has renewed Stranger Things for a third season, David Fincher’s Mindhunter for a second season and MST3K for what is officially being called the 12th season but is the second reboot season.
  • Umbrella Academy cast confirmed: Previously casting Ellen Page in the lead role, Netflix’s adaptation of Umbrella Academy has cast the rest of the superhero team which includes Tom Hopper as Luther, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, David Castañeda as Diego, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, and Aidan Gallagher as Number Five.  The original comic comes from Dark Horse and was created by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way.
  • Fox orders more episodes of Ghosted but may retool: Fox ordered six more episodes of the Adam Scott/Craig Robinson paranormal comedy Ghosted but it may get considerably different as they’ve also replaced showrunner Kevin Etten with The Office’s Paul Lieberstein and may try to make it more of a workplace comedy within the Bureau Underground.
  • Showrunners leave American Gods: Bryan Fuller and Mike Green have left the Starz adaptation of American Gods, apparently over disagreements about the budget for season 2.  Fuller and Green wanted an increase but Starz and production company FremantleMedia disagreed due to American Gods low ratings, even for Starz.  The show did have widespread critical acclaim, which is one of the main factors in it being renewed for season 2.
  • Official Tron LEGO set coming: Coming again from LEGO’s crowd sourced Ideas website, which previously got official sets for Ghostbusters and Back to the Future made, LEGO is officially making a TRON lightcycle set, based on the look of from Tron: Legacy.  The set is apparently coming sometime in 2018.
  • Live action Mulan cast: Disney has their new Mulan for the 2019 reboot of their animated classic with Chinese actress Liu Yifei in the role.  She has previously appeared in movies like The Forbidden Kingdom and Outcast.
  • Gremlins returning to theaters: Gizmo and the Gremlins are returning to theaters starting on December 8th and going through December 26th as part of a special event called Gremlins: Rule Breakers, that will include a filmed Q&A with director Joe Dante before the movie and special merchandise available at select theaters, including an exclusive t-shirt from Mondo.  Get all the info here: http://gremlinsrulebreakers.com/
  • Scooby-Doo prequel coming direct to video: Coming Ashley Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions, a prequel movie about how Daphne and Velma became friends and started solving mysteries is coming straight to video.  Sarah Jeffery will play Daphne and Sarah Gilman is playing Velma and it will be out some time next year.
  • Cast confirmed for Nicholas Winding Refn’s Amazon show: Nicholas Winding Refn revealed the cast for his upcoming Amazon show on Twitter this past week.  The show is Too Old to Die Young and will “explore various characters’ existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurai in the city of angels” and is written by comics legend Ed Brubaker.  Miles Teller is in the lead role and joining him his William Baldwin, Jena Malone, John Hawkes, Cristina Rodlo, Augusto Aguilera, Nell Tiger Free, Babs Olusanmokun and Callie Hernandez. The show will start on Amazon Video sometime next year.
  • Hellboy reboot gets a release date: Neil Marshall’s reboot of Hellboy starring Stranger Things’ David Harbour in the title role is arriving on January 11th, 2019,  Milla Jovovich is the villain, the Blood Queen, and Ian McShane is playing Professor Broom.
  • Super Mario Cereal coming soon: Nintendo is releasing Super Mario Cereal as a tie-in to Super Mario Odyssey.  The cereal is a mixed berry flavored cereal with Mario themed marshmallows and the box can be used as an Amiibo to get coins or hearts in Odyssey.  It arrives on shelves December 11th.
