  • CBS orders a pilot for LA Confidential show: Along with reviving seemingly every 80’s show in their back catalog, CBS is also turning every cop/crime movie they can get their hands on into shows, the latest being LA Confidential.  The network ordered a pilot for a reboot of the great Curtis Hanson adaptation of James Ellroy’s novel which follows multiple cops in 1950’s Los Angeles.  No word on possible stars or a showrunner.
  • Far Cry 5 DLC sounds insane: Although nothing will probably ever top Blood Dragon, Far Cry 5 sounds like it’s going to have some insane DLC additions as Ubisoft revealed there will be a Vietnam War based campaign, a Mars sci-fi campaign and a zombie battling campaign plus if you buy the Season Pass, you’ll also get the single player version of Far Cry 3.  Far Cry 5 is out on March 27th.
  • American Gods gets a new showrunner: After the very public leaving of Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, Starz has found a new showrunner for season 2 of American Gods and, fortunately, it’s another Hannibal alum, Jesse Alexander, who also is working on Star Trek: Discovery.  Alexander will co-run the show with American Gods creator Neil Gaiman. The loss of Fuller and Green most likely pushed back the premiere of Season 2 and it’s not clear when the show will return.
  • Fox orders a Gone Baby Gone show: Fox has ordered a pilot for a TV show based on Ben Affleck’s adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s neo noir Gone Baby Gone, which was actually the fourth novel in a series of mysteries following Dorchester detective duo Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro.  There’s no casting or if the show will be exclusively a rehash of the Gone Baby Gone story or if it will dive into some of the other novels.
  • Back to the Future turning into a Manga: Yuusuke Murata, the creator of One Punch Man, will be adapting Back to the Future into a Manga with supervision from Bob Gale and will feature “story content not seen in the films”, which may include deleted scenes or the original ending where Doc and Marty break into a nuclear test site.  Kono Manga ga Sugoi! will serialize the comic in Japan but it’s not clear if it will get translated and come to the States.
  • HBO orders new show from JJ Abrams: After a bidding war, HBO has gotten the rights to a new JJ Abrams sci-fi show called Demimonde.  The show will follow a woman who is in a car crash with her parents which puts her mother into a coma.  The mother is also a scientist and the daughter starts to dig into her experiments and discovers a portal to another universe where an evil, oppressive force is lurking.
  • Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events ending in Season 3: Netflix revealed their adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s book series will end with it’s third season.  The Neil Patrick Harris starring show returns in March for it’s second season and then most likely the third and final season will debut in 2019.
  • NBC Universal allowing unrestricted cursing on USA and SyFy: Get ready for f-bombs and more on your favorite SyFy and USA shows as NBC Universal stated this week that they will allow unrestricted use of “fuck” on both networks.  The cable networks have been slowly moving in this direction with FX allowing f-bombs on American Crime Story and Taboo and the recently ended first season of Happy! on SyFy saw Chris Meloni dropping “fucks” left and right.
  • First Look at Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

  • Sony rebooting Men in Black: Sony is rebooting the MiB franchise in what seems like a similar way to Jurassic World where it will still be the same universe but an entirely new cast of characters.  F. Gary Gray, who most recently directed The Fate of the Furious, will be helming this new MiB movie.
  • Nintendo confirms Super Mario animated movie: Nintendo officially confirmed this past week that they are working with Illumination Studios, the studio behind Despicable Me and Minions, to bring Super Mario to the big screen.  Shigeru Miyamoto will be a producer on the movie and Nintendo hopes to have it in theaters before the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
  • Hocus Pocus getting a sequel in book form: The cult Disney Halloween classic Hocus Pocus is getting a new book adaptation for it’s 25th anniversary that will feature the movie’s story plus an all new sequel where Max and Allison’s daughter, Poppy, faces off against the revived Sanderson sisters.  The book will be out on July 10th.
  • Paramount adapting the -Ology series: Looking for a potential new franchise, Paramount has gotten the rights to the -Ology series of kids’ reference books.  The books all cover a specific topic, like Alienology, Pirateology, Monsterology, etc. and are full of illustrations and written like a reference guide written by a fictional expert in that field.  Paramount wants to turn the books into a series of movies that are all focused around a research facility where a team will investigate the topics found in the books.
  • Bad Boys for Life gets a new director: The long gestating Bad Boys 3 aka Bad Boys for Life has seemingly found a new director, or directors in this case, with the duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah in talks.  The duo directed a Belgian movie called Black that was a new take on the Romeo and Juliet story.  The spin-off show starring Gabrielle Union has also cast Ernie Hudson as Syd’s father.
  • The CW orders a reboot of Roswell: The CW has ordered a reboot of the alien teen drama from the 90’s, Roswell.  The original show and this reboot is set in Roswell, New Mexico and follows hidden aliens who are living among the humans.  The reboot will follow a woman who returns to Roswell and discovers her high school crush turned police officer is secretly an alien and becomes a target of evil alien forces and a government cover-up.  Roswell will join the upcoming Charmed reboot that is also coming to The CW.
  • New “In Search Of” coming to History Channel: History Channel is rebooting the classic Leonard Nimoy paranormal series In Search Of with his Spock successor, Zachary Quinto. Quinto will host the new series that will dive into things like aliens, monsters and ghosts but this time it will be “unscripted” and possibly be more like Travel Channel shows like Expedition Unknown or, god forbid, the various Ghost hunting shows.
  • DC Streaming service will feature new series Metropolis: One of the original series that DC is using to entice people to it’s upcoming streaming service is not very enticing.  WB and DC announced a series called Metropolis that will feature Lex Luthor and Lois Lane investigating strange, fringe science cases around the titular city, which, what?
  • Emily Blunt joins Jungle Cruise: Emily Blunt will co-star with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for Disney’s upcoming movie based on their classic Jungle Cruise ride.  The movie will be directed by Jaume Collet-Sera and the movie will be set around the 40’s or 50’s with The Rock as some sort of Indiana Jonesesque adventurer but no word on who Blunt will play, although The African Queen is apparently a big inspiration, so she may be a Katherine Hepburnesque character.
  • Cloverfield 4 already ready to go: There’s still no official word on whether Cloverfield 3 aka Cloverfield Station aka God Particle will be heading to Netflix but Paramount apparently already has a fourth movie ready to go under the Cloverfield branding. Currently working under the title Overlord, the movie was directed by Julius Avery and follows a squad of paratroopers in WWII who go behind enemy lines during D-Day and find a village experiencing a strange supernatural phenomenon.  The movie is done and has an October 26, 2018 release date currently.
  • Sam Raimi directing The Kingkiller Chronicles adaptation: A highly regarded fantasy novel series, Sam Raimi will be directing the first movie adaptation of Pat Rothfuss’ The Kingkiller Chronicles.  The movie will be based on The Name in the Wind and also has Lin-Manuel Miranda as a writer and executive producer and will attempt what The Dark Tower seemingly failed to do and have an accompanying TV series on Showtime along with the feature films.
  • Tom Hanks playing Mister Rogers for a biopic: The world’s dad, Tom Hanks, will be stepping into the shoes of another famous celebrity by playing Fred Rogers for an upcoming biopic.  The movie will be called You Are My Friend and follows journalist Tom Junod, who did a profile of Rogers in 1998 for Esquire and became friends with the TV host.
  • Valiant Comics bought by DMG Entertainment: One of the comic companies we feature on a weekly basis for The Pull List, Valiant has been purchased by DMG Entertainment, the production company behind Looper, the Point Break remake and other projects.  DMG wants to move forward with getting the Valiant properties like X-O Manowar, Bloodshot and Harbinger to movies and TV, which Valiant was trying to get going for a few years now.
