- James Wan and Shawn Levy teaming for Netflix slasher movie: Horror director James Wan and Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy are teaming up for a new Netflix slasher horror movie, There’s Someone Inside Your House. The movie is based on a novel of the same name and follows a teen girl who moves to Nebraska to live with her grandmother and her classmates start dying in mysterious and gruesome ways.
- The Grudge reboot casts John Cho: John Cho has joined The Grudge reboot, joining Andrea Riseborough and Demian Bichir. It seems like this might be a sort of sequel to the 2004 original but not rehash the exact same plot. Riseborough is playing a single mother and detective. Nicolas Pesce, who recently directed the indie horror movie The Eyes of My Mother, is directing.
- Hulu developing a Satanic Panic series: Hulu is developing a series called Demons that will be set during the 80s and 90s “Satanic Panic”, where parents became convinced their children were going to be corrupted by satanic gateways like D&D and that ritual murders and witchcraft were everywhere. The show wouldn’t follow any specific true crime case like American Crime Story but would instead follow a fictional psychiatrist and his wife/star patient, who become involved in a new case every season.
- Shout! Factory acquires the Roger Corman film catalog: Roger Corman has signed a deal with Shout! Factory giving them full rights to 270 of his classic B-movies, which would allow Shout! Factory to release them on Blu-Ray, sell the rights for streaming or even develop modern film and TV series based on titles like Pirahna, Battle Beyond the Stars, Rock N Roll High School and more.
- Luke Cage Season 2 finds its villain: Former Sopranos co-star Annabella Sciorra has joined Luke Cage Season 2 as the new villain arriving in Harlem, Rosalie Carbone, who is an underworld power player looking to expand into Harlem. The new season arrives in June.
- Danny Boyle directing Bond 25: Danny Boyle confirmed during a press event for his FX series Trust that he is writing and directing the 25th Bond movie, which will most likely be Daniel Craig’s final time in the role. There are really no other details but a rumor has been that this movie will be a prequel to Casino Royale to try and avoid the plotting mess that wrapped up Spectre.
- Henry Selick directing a new stop motion movie with Key & Peele: Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline director Henry Selick is back for a new stop motion comedy for Netflix that will reunite Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael Key. Called Wendell and Wild, Key and Peele will play demon brothers who are trying to escape from Hell.
- Spike Lee may be in talks to direct a Nightwatch movie: Spike Lee may be in talks to direct a movie based on 90’s Spider-Man side character Nightwatch as part of Sony’s expanding Spider-Man spin-off universe. Nightwatch is the alter ego of Dr. Kevin Trench, who discovers his own corpse from the future that is dressed in a supersuit that he takes and becomes a vigilante called Nightwatch.
- Rob Zombie shooting Devil’s Reject sequel right now: Rob Zombie is currently shooting the sequel to Devil’s Rejects, called 3 From Hell (?). Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Sherri Moon Zombie are back as the main trio but there’s no release date or plot details yet.
- The new Cagney & Lacey cast for CBS: CBS has cast their new Cagney & Lacey for a reboot of the classic cop show with Gray’s Anatomy co-star Sarah Drew as Cagney and Blindspot and Ash vs Evil Dead guest star Michelle Hurd has been cast as Lacey.
- FX orders a new show from Alex Garland: The Annihilation and Ex Machina is developing and directing a pilot for a new FX series called Devs, which follows a computer engineer named Lily who investigates her company’s mysterious “development department” after her boyfriend disappears.
- Margot Robbie officially in talks for Tarantino’s new movie: Rumored since it was announced, Margot Robbie is now officially in talks to co-star as Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as a former western star and his stunt double/best friend in 1969 Los Angeles.
- Dan Gilroy directing Netflix horror movie: Following up Nightcrawler, Dan Gilroy is directing an untitled horror movie for Netflix that will star his Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal, John Malkovich, Rene Russo, Natalie Dyer, Daveed Diggs and Toni Collette and is about “big-money artists and mega-collectors who pay a high price when art collides with commerce”.
- Nicolas Cage finally playing Superman: Nic Cage will finally fulfill his destiny to play Superman, voicing the Man of Steel in Teen Titans GO! to the Movies, which is hitting theaters this summer.
- Arnold says Triplets may shoot this year: Our patron saint says that there’s a real possibility that the long in development Twins sequel, Triplets, may start shooting this year. The plot would reunite Arnold and Danny Devito and add Eddie Murphy as the duo’s third brother born out of a weird medical experiment. Ivan Reitman is apparently coming back to direct as well.
- Ava DuVernay directing a New Gods movie for WB/DC: Fresh off the mixed results of A Wrinkle in Time, Ava DuVernay has signed on for another complicated adaptation with WB/DC, a movie based on New Gods. A Jack Kirby creation, the New Gods follows the complicated relationship between Darkseid’s Apokolips and New Genesis, a lush and peaceful world ruled by High Father and includes characters like Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Orion and Granny Goodness.
- Clarissa Explains It All getting a reboot: Following in the footsteps of dozens of recent TV reboots/sequel series, 90’s Nickelodeon show Clarissa Explains It All may be on the way back with star Melissa Joan Hart back starring as Clarissa, although now as the mom with kids of her own. The show would be back on Nick and original creator Mitchell Kriegman will be involved to write and executive produce the reboot.
