Musical Montage: The Dickies “Killer Klowns from Outer Space”

Perfectly fitting into the weird, campy vibe of Killer Klowns from Outer Space, punk rockers The Dickies gave the movie it’s circus flavored theme song, also called “Killer Klowns from Outer Space”.  The Dickies formed in 1977 and were one of the first punk bands to come out of California and also the first California punk band to perform on national television and score a record deal.  Inspired by The Ramones and other iconic punk bands, The Dickies crafted songs with extremely catchy hooks and humorous lyrics that poked fun at their California roots and they also did a bunch of punk covers for songs like “Nights in White Satin” and “Paranoid”.  “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” was also the debut of drummer Cliff Martinez with the band, who has since become one the biggest and best modern film and TV composers, providing scores for movies like Only God Forgives, Spring Breakers, Game Night, Den of Thieves and Contagion and TV shows like The Knick.  The music video features The Dickies performing in jail and also features one of the Killer Klowns being arrested and going on trial and culminates with the entire band turning into Killer Klowns to perform for the inmates.  Check it out below and come back later this week for our commentary of the movie.
