- Diablo series rumored for Netflix: A rumor has suggested that Netflix is possibly developing a Diablo series with Blizzard. Blizzard said last month they were working on multiple Diablo based projects, one of which recently came to fruition with Diablo III on Switch. Andrew Cosby, who wrote the upcoming Hellboy reboot, is rumored to be working on the series.
- Alan Tudyk cast as Doom Patrol villain: Battling Brendan Fraser and the rest of the Doom Patrol, Firefly and Star Wars actor Alan Tudyk has been cast as the series’ main villain, Mr. Nobody. Mr. Nobody was the subject of experiments by ex-Nazis in Paraguay and the results made him a living shadow, able to turn people insane and he himself has gone insane. Doom Patrol is airing on DC Universe sometime in 2019 and the actual service was revealed this week to be launching on September 15th.
- Greg Nicotero joins the Spawn reboot: Special effects legend and one of the driving forces behind The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero, is joining Todd McFarlane’s upcoming Spawn reboot. Nicotero designed the original Spawn costume for the 1997 movie and will design the look of the new Spawn and the new movie will be focused on practical effects over CG.
- Thriller coming to IMAX 3D: Michael Jackson’s iconic Thriller video is making its debut in IMAX 3D in September. The music video will be attached for one week with the IMAX 3D version of The House with a Clock in its Walls starting on September 21st.
- WB developing a Wile. E. Coyote movie: The hapless Looney Tunes antagonist Wile E. Coyote is getting his own movie called Coyote vs Acme with Jon and Josh Silberman writing the script. There are no plot details but it may be inspired by a humor essay by writer Ian Frazier, who envisioned Coyote suing Acme for years of faulty products.
- Tarantino and David Fincher cast the same Charles Manson: Damon Herriman, who most people probably know as the hilariously dumb punching bag Dewey Crowe on Justified, has been cast in both Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Season 2 of David Fincher’s Mindhunter as Charles Manson. The Manson murders are the backdrop for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood while on Mindhunter he will have a small role as the second season is set in the 80’s when Manson was already locked up.
- Avengers Stunt Coordinator Directing Action Movie Dhaka: Sam Hargrave, Chris Evans’ Captain America stunt double and stunt coordinator for Infinity War is making his directing debut with the upcoming action movie Dhaka. Chris Hemsworth has signed on to star and the Russo Brothers are producing, so it’s a full on Avengers reunion. Hemsworth will play a world-weary mercenary who has to rescue the son of his wealthy client.
- Matt Smith joins Star Wars Episode IX: The former Doctor Who has signed on to join the cast of Star Wars Episode IX but, like everyone else who is new to the series, there are no details about who he would be playing.
- Justin Roiland developing new Hulu series: The co-creator of Rick and Morty has signed a deal with Hulu to develop a new animated series called Solar Opposites and it follows a group of aliens who have to flee their homeworld and take refuge in Middle America. Roiland will voice the main character and The Goldbergs’ Sean Giambrone and comedian and voice actress Mary Mack will co-star. Roiland’s buddy Alex Hirsch, creator of Gravity Falls, also recently signed a big deal with Netflix to develop an adult-oriented animated series for the service.
- NickSplat channel launches on VRV: The subscription service VRV has launched a new premium channel with 90s Nick classics like All That, Doug, Rocko’s Modern Life, CatDog, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, Clarissa Explains It All, Kenan & Kel, Legends of the Hidden Temple, The Angry Beavers and The Wild Thornberry called NickSplat. NickSplat is $5.99 by itself or you can do the $9.99 a month subscription to VRV Premium which also gives you channels like CrunchyRoll and Funimation.
- Onimusha 1 getting remastered: The PS2 classic Onimusha: Warlords will be getting a remaster for modern consoles on January 15th for $19.99. The game is the first in a trilogy that featured samurai Samanosuke Akechi as he battled demons in feudal Japan.
- Streets of Rage 4 announced: Also in gaming news, Streets of Rage 4 was announced by Dotemu and developer Lizardcube. The companies are behind the revival of Wonder Boy and the new Streets of Rage will feature Axel and Blaze in a brand new beat em up adventure. There are no platforms or release date but you would have to assume all the major platforms and PC.
- New Big Trouble in Litle China movie is a sequel, not a remake: The Rock was announced to be starring in a Big Trouble in Little China remake back in 2015 but there was clarification this week from producer Hiram Garcia that the new movie is a continuation set in the set universe, not a remake. This is exactly what The Rock did with Jumanji, to massive success and it opens the door to a Kurt Russell as Jack Burton cameo. This new movie is probably a few years out as The Rock has seemingly endless projects in the pipe and is currently filming Jungle Cruise for Disney.
- The Rock playing King Kamehameha for Robert Zemeckis: In other Rock news, he’ll be playing the legendary Hawaiian king Kamehameha for director Robert Zemeckis in a historical epic called King. Kamehameha united the warring tribes of Hawaii in 1810 into one nation. The Rock has expressed that this is a dream project for him and something he’s wanted to make for years.
- Disney’s streaming service gets an official name: The upcoming Disney streaming service is now officially Disney Play and will launch sometime in 2019 with CEO Bob Iger saying the service is the company’s primary priority in next year. There was no word on price but they explicitly said it will be less than Netflix. In addition to Disney movies and shows, the service will have exclusives like 2 Star Wars shows, a remake of Lady and The Tramp, remakes of Honey I Shrunk the Kids and The Parent Trap and more.
- Wesley Snipes teases new Blade projects: Recently talking to Vice, Wesley Snipes said that he’s got at least two Blade related projects in the works and that he and his team have been meeting with Marvel execs for at least two years. The rights to Blade reverted back to Marvel/Disney but the Daywalker has yet to make any sort of appearance in the MCU.
- Top Gun 2 delayed: Top Gun 2 has been delayed until June 26, 2020. It was originally planned for July 12 next summer. This also led to some other shuffling from Paramount as Terminator 6 moved to November 15th, 2019 and A Quiet Place 2 got a release date of May 15th, 2020. Sonic the Hedgehog also moved to November 8th, 2019.
