In their assignments set in 1956, the Burea for Paranormal Research and Defense is tasked with investigating suspicious activity in Mexico. Hellboy and two recently promoted trainees head off to Mexico, while Professor Bruttenholm heads to the CIA headquarters to discuss the presence of Enkeladite, a substance that can alter matter into dramatic powerful and unpredicted forms. However, Bruttenholm’s concerns are met resistance and the CIA is demanding the B.P.R.D. to focus on the Soviet’s rising occult activity. While the Soviet mission takes priority, Bruttenholm suspects a cover-up that will be a far greater problem for the world.
