Battle at the Box Office 12/10

For the second weekend in a row, there was basically no new major wide release blockbusters in theaters, so everything pretty much remained where it was last weekend, with Ralph Breaks the Internet on top for the third weekend in a row.

Ralph Breaks the Internet took in another $16.2 million, bringing it to just shy of $141 million domestic and it has just short of $259 million worldwide.  It’s currently the seventh highest grossing release for Walt Disney Animation Studio behind it’s predecessor’s $189 million gross.

The Grinch, Creed II, Crimes of Grindelwald and Bohemian Rhapsody all stayed in second through fifth respectively and all fairly low drop off from last weekend, with Creed II dropping the most at 40% despite adding another 176 theaters.

The biggest movement on the top 10 this weekend was Green Book, which jumped up to seventh place with $3.9 million and dropping a microscopic 0.7% from last weekend.  The Possession of Hannah Grace was bumped out of seventh to ninth place with $3.2 million.

The Per Screen average went to Mary Queen of Scots, which made $48,694 on each of the four screens it debuted on.

The biggest news of the weekend was international, as Aquaman made it’s debut in China, the first country seeing the movie, and took in a massive $93.6 million, becoming the #1 movie in the world.  That’s about the same as Justice League’s opening weekend in the US last year. The movie is tracking for possibly $65-$80 million for it’s debut in the US on December 21st.
