Explore the Many Worlds of Playmobil in August (Trailer)

The Lego Movie franchise has set the bar extremely high for the “movies based on a toy line” genre and Playmobil is looking to see if they can reach that bar in August with Playmobil: The Movie.  Although frequently compared to LEGO, Playmobil is actually more focused on their “klicky” figures and the buildings and vehicles they can live in and ride around in and the many different figures and worlds seem to be represented in the movie.  Anya-Taylor Joy stars as Marla, whose little brother Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) is magically sucked into the world of Playmobil and she follows, turning into a Playmobil figure and having to team up with an eclectic group of figures including food truck driver Del (Jim Gaffigan) and secret agent Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe) to journey across the many themed lands to find him.  Meghan Trainor, Adam Lambert, and Wendi McLendon-Covey co-star and Lino DiSalvo, a Disney animator who most recently worked on Frozen, is making his directorial debut.  It doesn’t seem like it has the wit or meta-awareness of the Lego movies but we all thought the same thing before the first LEGO Movie hit and became one of the greatest animated films of all time. Playmobil arrives on August 7th and you can check out the trailer below.
