Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Is Ready to Spread Nightmares This Summer (Trailer)

There were some brief glimpses of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark during the Super Bowl this year but the first trailer is finally here.  Based on the childhood scarring books by Alvin Schwartz with art by Stephen Gammell, the movie follows a group of teenagers in 1968 in the small town of Mill Valley who become the target of local legend Sarah Bellows.  Sarah lived a tortured life and crafted a series of horrific stories that have the power to come to life and now the monsters from the stories are targetting the teen protagonists, including classic book monsters like Harold the Scarecrow and the Pale Lady.  Guillermo Del Toro is the executive producer with Andre Ovredal, director of Trollhunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe, is directing.  Considering how much of a superfan GDT is of the books and specifically Gammell’s horrific art, the movie really looks like it’s going for it as far as being creepy and scary and being true to the tone of the books.  The movie arrives on August 9th this summer and you can check out the trailer below.
