Musical Montage: The Psychedelic Furs “Pretty in Pink”

You would probably think that John Hughes’ 80s classic came first in relation to the song of the same name but it’s actually the other way around.  Released first in 1981, “Pretty in Pink” by The Psychedelic Furs was off the band’s Talk Talk Talk album and charted at #43 on the UK Singles Chart.  John Hughes named his 1986 movie after the song and The Psychedelic Furs recorded a new version of the song to be released alongside the film.  That version peaked at #41 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and many critics consider it the lesser version of the song.  The band went on hiatus after a 1992 tour but regrouped in 2000 and have been touring ever since, although they have not put out a full album since 1991.  They’ve been heard recently in shows like Stranger Things and movies like Call Me By Your Name.  You can check out the official music video for “Pretty in Pink” below, which is jammed to the gills with scenes from the movie.
