Disney Goes Crouching Tiger with the Live Action Mulan (Trailer)

The Disney live-action reboot train shows no signs of stopping and Mulan is one of the upcoming movies, arriving next year.  Taking its cues from the animated film from 1998 as well as the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan”, Yifei Liu stars as Mulan, who disguises herself as a man named Hua Jun to protect her ailing father from having to be forced to serve in the Chinese army.  After training, Mulan and her allies are sent into battle against the Hun forces who are trying to invade the country. An all-star cast co-stars including Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jason Scott Lee, Gong Li, Tzi Ma, Yoson An, and Ron Yuan and it’s directed by Niki Caro, who previously directed movies like The Zookeeper’s Wife and Whale Rider.  It seems like it’s leaning toward the wuxia style of something like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and it’s leaning more toward realism as well, which seems to include getting rid of Mushu (unless they are holding off on revealing him until later).  The movie is out March 27th next year and you can check out the first trailer below.
