Musical Montage: Weird Al “Spy Hard”

There was only one man who could properly parody title songs of the Connery era of James Bond for 1996’s Spy Hard and that was Weird Al.  Taking cues from a lot of James Bond songs, but specifically Thunderball, Al appeared during the opening credits and sang the title track, which was full of fourth-wall-breaking lyrics and self-awareness.  The titles also matched the style of classic Bond openings, with silhouetted figures and multiple colored backgrounds and Weird Al himself directed them.  The song never appeared on a proper Weird Al album but it was released as a B-side to “Gump” and as it’s own single.  It was included on the “Medium Rarities” disc of the massive 15 disc Weird Al collection Squeeze Box.   The actual movie Spy Hard was a critical failure and was actually the first movie written by hacks Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who would go on to direct trash like Epic Movie and Vampires Suck.  You can check out the video for Spy Hard below.
