Warner Bros and DC are trying to refocus their efforts on more standalone DC movies but with the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey is one of the few that is tied to the previous movies, like Suicide Squad. Sometime after the end of Suicide Squad, Harley dumped The Joker and struck out on her own to get into random hijinks around Gotham and beyond. She encounters a young girl named Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco), who has stolen a valuable diamond from the crime boss Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and he wants it back by any means necessary, including sending the murderous Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina) after them. Harley and Cassandra also encounter and recruit a crew of DC ladies, including Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), and Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) to team up and stop Black Mask. Cathy Yan, who has directed indies like Dead Pigs, is making her blockbuster debut and it looks pretty stylish and colorful, with flourishes like a sequence that sees Harley getting her Marilyn Monroe on. The movie arrives on February 7th next year and you can check out the trailer below.
