So Joe mentioned it on Everything Actioncast Ep. 21 but now you can see what he was talking about thanks to Hulu.  MANTIS is from the golden age of Saturday afternoon synidcated shows and is about a wheelchair bound scientist who invents a suit that gives him not only the ability to walk but super strength, agility and other increased abilities.  Realizing the power of the suit, he sets out to rid his city of crime.  Check out the two part pilot below.

It’s been a while since an installment of Everything Action Theater.  Not that there hasn’t been any good movies added but we aren’t able to embed them (Real Genius and Krull both were recently added) but now we are able to bring you the Charles Bronson classic Death Wish, in full right here.  After his wife and son are attacked by vicious gang members, a mild mannered man becomes a one man clean up crew and starts killing anyone who gets in his way. The movie also contains the film debut of one Jeff Goldblum. By the time you get to Death Wish 3, the series becomes ridiculous but the original is a classic in the revenge genre.

I’m pretty sure we’re going to know everything about X-Men: First Class by the time it comes out but produce Bryan Singer gave out some more information last week.  Here’s the bullet points.

• The movie will take place in the 60′s and feature the Hellfire Club, headed up by Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and January Jones as Emma Frost.
• Young Charles Xavier will be up and walking around with a full head of hair but a falling out with Magneto will place him in his wheelchair.
• James Bond films of the 60′s are some of the main inspirations for the movie
• Confirmed Mutants: Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, Xavier, Magneto, Beast, Banshee, Darwin, Mystique, Azazel, Moira MacTaggert, Raven Darkholme and a female version of Angel.
• The previous spin off movie X-Men Origins: Magneto has been absorbed into this movie.

So yeah, the Emmy Awards were last night, which I kind of forgot about until I got home from work and checked Twitter.  The Emmys aren’t as big a deal personally because it’s pretty much the same thing every year, Mad Men and 30 Rock will usually win everything.  Well, there were actually some differences this year but none of the show I care about won anything so I don’t have anything to say except here’s the winners (oh and apparently the voters didn’t care for Lost’s ending either):

The last weekend of the official summer blockbuster season saw super low budget horror movie The Last Exorcism taking the top spot.  With a budget of only $1.8 million the movie took in $21.3 million with mostly positive reviews and a PG-13 rating (I observed that PG-13 horror movies are tween girl magnets apparently at the movie theater this weekend).  Taking a close second was Takers or hip hop’s attempt at Heat.  The movie took in an even $21 million.  Our beloved Expendables fell to third place this weekend, taking in another $9.5 million and bringing it’s total to just over $81 million.  Eat, Pray, Love and The Other Guys stayed in roughly the same spots while last week’s number two, Vampires Suck, fell to sixth.  Two of last week’s other releases plummeted almost off the charts, Piranha 3D barely made tenth and Lottery Ticket went from fourth to eleventh.  Finally, the re-release of Avatar didn’t really make a big splash.  Debuting in 810 theaters it managed to pull in $4 million, which I assume means that most people are fine with the DVD/Blu Ray original version or waiting for this version to come out in a couple months.

• Iron Fist movie on the way: Marvel has hired screenwriter Rich Wilkes, previous writer of Airheads and XXX, to write a script for an Iron Fist movie.  Iron Fist is one of Marvel’s lesser known heroes, an extremely skilled martial artist with indestructible fists.  Iron Fist was partners with Luke Cage during the 70′s and has a couple of reboots over the years.
• Netflix iPhone/Ipod Touch App is out: I’m sure we’ll get better impressions from Brian and Joe on next week’s podcast about this app but all reviews seem to say that it’s awesome.
• Nike patents Back to the Future II power lace shoes:

• Fantastic Four Reboot Casting Rumors: Following on the heels of the Spider-Man reboot, Fox is planning a Fantastic Four reboot and there are apparently a couple choices for Reed Richards and Sue Storm.  For Reed the choices are Adrian Brody or Jonathan Rhys Myers and for Sue Storm the choices are Alice Eve or Amber Heard.
• Jeremy Renner co-starring in Mission Impossible 4: Not much to say except Renner has been kick ass in pretty much everything he’s been in, I’m just wondering if if MI4 will ever come out because pretty much everything I read about it is how many problems it’s having.
• Eli Roth making Thanksgiving into full movie: While we eagerly wait for Machete next week, another Grindhouse fake trailer is getting turned into a full movie.  The fake trailer is below in case you forgot what Thanksgiving was.

Danny Boyle is following up his Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire with the true story of Aron Ralston.  Ralston survived a horrific ordeal where he became trapped for five days in a canyon under a boulder and finally had to cut his own arm off to escape.  He then had to climb up 65 feet and hike almost 8 miles to find rescue.  James Franco is portraying Ralston in the movie and, it might be just me, but this trailer seems insanely upbeat for a story about a guy who HAD TO CUT HIS OWN ARM OFF.  The trailer also makes him seem a little douchey but maybe it’s just horribly edited.  The movie is coming out in November and you can check out the trailer below.

One of the properties that generated a lot of buzz at Comic Con and definitely highly anticipated by us at Everything Action is AMC’s The Walking Dead.  Based on the phenomenal comic series by Robert Kirkland, the show finds cop Rick Grimes waking up in the hospital after getting shot and finding most of the population has been turned into flesh eating zombies.  Rick sets out to find his wife and son and to try and survive the apocalypse.  The official trailer was taped by someone at Comic Con but AMC has released the official version.  The show will debut on Halloween with a 90 minute episode.  I could not be more excited.

Everything is Terrible and the Alamo Drafthouse are teaming up to show the world “Miami Connection”, a movie that looks like it’s awesomely bad in every possible way.  As the trailer below shows, EIT claims that this movie has something for everyone including, “Neck Gore, Pizza Parties and Epic Letter Openings”.  Check it out below.

I’m feeling conflicted emotions looking at this week’s box office numbers.  On the one hand, The Expendables held onto the top spot against an onslaught of garbage but Scott Pilgrim (which I saw last Friday and thoroughly enjoyed) is dying faster than Taye Diggs at the end of Equilibrium.  The Expendables took in another $16.5 million over the weekend, bringing it’s two week total to just under $65 million.  Second place went to the “spoof” movie Vampires Suck, from the demon spawn behind Date Movie, Epic Movie, etc.  Eat, Pray, Love dropped down to third place, fourth place went to new release Lottery Ticket and The Other Guys rounded out the top 5.  The three other new releases took the sixth, seventh and eight spots (Piranha 3D, Nanny McPhee Returns and The Switch respectively.)  The tragedy of Scott Pilgrim is that it lost almost 50% from last week and fell from fifth to tenth.  It’s almost guaranteed to become a cult classic but it’s sad to see it lose to such cinematic garbage.  Definitely go see it if you haven’t yet.  This weekend see the return of Avatar, can it make another billion dollars or is everyone fine with watching it on DVD now?
