Tons of anniversary editions are out this week for movies like Gremlins and Forest Gump along with arguably the best and funnest movie of the year, Guardians of the Galaxy.
With Denzel firmly in bad ass mode, The Equalizer easily took the box office this past weekend with one of the highest ever September openings and a top 3 opening for Denzel and director Antoine Fuqua.
The three new releases took the top 3 spots, although The Maze Runner did significantly better at number one and kicked off a new YA adventure franchise.
Guardians of the Galaxy was finally unseated after five weeks in the top spot by the new Idris Elba/Taraji P. Henson thriller, No Good Deed, while Dolphin Tale 2 had a fairly weak opening compared to the first movie.
It seems like it might be another slow weekend at the box office with the sequel to Dolphin Tale and home invasion thriller No Good Deed, the latter of which was not screened to critics.
As we transition from Summer blockbusters to Winter Oscar contenders, the fall is a weird limbo of not quite either but later this month there looks like some solid thrillers from Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington, Kevin Smith’s latest and more.
