With Princess of Mars, The Asylum first tried to capitalize on the fact that it “inspired James Cameron’s Avatar” and then re-released it when Disney’s version came out in 2012.
Bombing at the box office this weekend, John Carter isn’t a terrible movie. It has some great special effects and action but the plot and attempts to explain hundreds of pages of mythology bogs it down considerably.
Disney debuted the full trailer for John Carter this week and, while some of it looks kind of interesting, it gives the impression of being an Avatar knock off, albeit with a completely different setting.
Disney is adapting the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs’ pulp series John Carter of Mars, into a live action action/adventure movie directed by Pixar director Andrew Stanton.
