The classic Ayn Rand novel has been in development as a movie for quite a while but it’s finally going to start filming in about a month, however there are no actors cast yet.  Producer John Aglialoro bought the rights to the book for $1 million and wants to make four movies based on it.  Rookie director Stephen Polk  is supposed to helm the project and Aglialoro says he’s working on getting Maggie Gyllenhaal or Charlize Theron to play the main character Danny Taggart and also supposedly Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Russell Crowe were all attached at some point.  It’s a bold strategy to start a movie with no actors, let’s see if it pays off for them.

From director Xavier Gens, the guy who made Hitman (so make of that what you will), comes The Divide, which was formerly called The Fallout.  It’s about a catastrophic event that takes place in New York City that causes eight strangers to become trapped in the basement of an apartment building.  Trying to survive the aftermath of the disaster, the group must also fend off a mysterious and relentless group of men in HAZMAT suits, who seem determined to kill them.  The movies stars Michael Biehn and Milo Ventimiglia and is still in production, so no clear release dates but you can check out the teaser trailer below.

The Universal Soldier franchise continues to plod forward as the fourth in canon movie is set to go into production this fall. (It’s actually the fourth Universal Soldier movie but only the ones with Van Damme are acknowledged)  The movie will once again star Jean Claude Van Damme as Luc Devreaux and Dolph Lundgren as Andrew Scott and director of Regeneration, John Hyams, will be directing this one as well.  It was also announced that the movie is going to be in 3D, does that mean a theatrical release since Regeneration went straight to video or do they think everyone will have 3D TVs by next year?  Also, how are they going to explain Dolph coming back after getting his brains exploded out the back of his skull in Regeneration?  Regeneration was surprisingly decent but I’m not sure how much life the Universal Soldier franchise has left in it.

If you’re a reasonable person you probably blocked out any memory of the horrible Sly Stallone Judge Dredd movie that came out in the late ’90′s.  Everything that Demolition Man did right, Judge Dredd did so very wrong, including having Sly’s co-star be Rob Schneider.  The movie was panned by critics and bombed at the box office but the original comic could potentially still be a bad ass movie.  At least that’s what Indian company Reliance Big Entertainment thinks, as they’ve agreed to independently finance DNA Films new 3D adaptation for $50 million.  DNA has tasked Vantage Point director Pete Travis to direct the new Dredd, which will be closer to the original comic’s dark and violent tone and hopefully with no big studio interference it won’t be the bloated, horribly acted mess the first Dredd movie was, as shown below.

The idea has been kicking around for a while but it looks like the A-Team movie might be ramping up.  It was announced a while back that Liam Neeson was to play Hannibal and that Bradley Cooper was going to play Faceman.  Last week news came out that UFC star Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was going to play B.A. Baracus.  The most recent news is that Jessica Biel and Sharlto Copley were the newest cast members added.  Copley, fresh off of District 9, is being offered the role of Howling Mad Murdock and Jessica Biel is being offered an as yet unknown role.  The movie is being produced by Fox and is being directed by Joe Carnahan, who previously directed Smokin’ Aces and Narc.  Ridley Scott is supposed to be on board as a producer.  What do you think of a remake of the A-Team and what your ideal new A-Team be?  Let us know in comments.

Making life saving inventions out of household materials, MacGruber! One of the only saving graces of recent SNL (besides the Lonely Island boys) has been Will Forte’s MacGyver parody, MacGruber.  Each sketch sees MacGruber and friends in some sort of control room with 30 seconds left before an explosion.  MacGruber then usually gets sidetracked or freaks out and the explosion goes off.  Apparently this is enough for a feature film, as announced by The Hollywood Reporter today.  Jorma Taccone, who wrote most of the sketches, is going to direct and Lorne Michaels will, of course, produce.  Will Forte will play the title character and fellow SNLer Kristin Wiig will co-star.  Also in talks to come on board are Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer.  The plot would revolve around the Army recruiting a retired MacGruber to come back and battle one of his archenemies.  Phillippe would play an Army colonel who is teamed up with MacGruber and Kilmer would play the villain, Cunth, who killed MacGruber’s wife.  The sketches are great but I’m a little worried because A) they work perfectly in the 30 second time frame and B) Wayne’s World is the only good movie to be based on an SNL sketch.  In case you haven’t seen the sketches (and consequently been confused this whole article) then take a look below:
