Pick of the Week: The Wrestler

Personally I feel that Mickey Rourke got robbed at the Oscars this year because he is brilliant as Randy “The Ram” Robinson. It’s the story of how everything outside the ring is falling apart for Randy but when he’s inside it, he still feels like a superstar. There’s some intense wrestling scenes, including a bloody hardcore match-up, some cameos from famous wrestlers and great supporting peformances from Marisa Tomei (who’s naked most of the movie which is always a plus) and Evan Rachel Wood.

Welcome to Friday everybody where we have 5 new movies out in theaters this week.  Daniel Craig is killing Nazis, we learn the true story of Notorious B.I.G. and pick axes are being thrown into our faces by a guy in a gas mask.  Here’s what the buzz is.

Defiance

Plot: Three Jewish brothers lead a group of refugees through the Eastern European woods fighting off the Nazis and trying to survive the winter.

Critic Consensus: “Professionally made but artistically uninspired, Ed Zwick’s story of Jews surviving WWII in the Belarus forest lacks the emotional punch of the actual history.”

My Bloody Valentine 3D

Plot: On Valentine’s Day in the small town of Harmony a lunatic in a gas mask and armed with a pick axe comes to town and starts on a killing spree.
