Always in contention when talking about the best Disney movies of all time is 1991′s Beauty and the Beast.  Beauty and the Beast is so good in fact that it was actually nominated for Best Picture in the 1992 Academy Awards well before the Oscars had an established Animated category (It lost to Silence of the Lambs).  It did, however, win two Oscars for it’s soundtrack, one for the score and one for the title song “Beauty and the Beast”.  The movie features a number of great songs besides that award winning one and you can watch and listen to them all below.

A huge night for Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker as she took home Best Director and the movie took home both Sound awards, Best Screenplay and Best Picture.  Avatar won most of the other technical awards like Visual Effects and Cinematography.  The acting categories were not really that surprising except for Sandra Bullock, who won Best Actress, but she’s also the Worst Actress as well so I guess they cancel each other out.  Check out all the winners below and definitely check out the transcript of our live blog for more thoughts.

With the Oscar nominees being announced tomorrow, the Golden Raspberry Foundation announced their nominees for the worst movies and performances of the past year. TF: Revenge of the Fallen and Land of the Lost are tied for the nominations at seven each while Sandra Bullock could potentially be nominated in both the Razzies and the Oscars.  Eddie Murphy also continues his long running streak of Razzie nominations with Imagine That.  Since it’s the 30th ceremony the Razzies are also doing special “Worst of the Decade” awards for Worst Picture, Worst Actor and Worst Actress.  You can see the complete list of nominees below.

Big news for the movie industry and fans as the Acedemy of Motion Picture Arts and Science announced that they would be doubling the amount of best picture nominees from 5 to 10 for this year’s awards.  Reaction has been mixed across the internets as some are thinking this is just a desperate bid for ratings and others are thinking that this could help deserving movies get nominated that otherwise wouldn’t.  One of the main points I’ve been seeing is that if the Academy had implemented this last year then fan favorites The Dark Knight and Wall-E would probably have gotten best picture noms.  What’s your opinion on this?  Sound off in the comments.

Ridley Scott brings us another great thriller with Body of Lies. Leonardo DiCaprio is a CIA agent trying to uncover a terrorist cell in the Middle East and Russell Crowe is his conniving boss. There’s some great action scenes and great performances from not just Crowe and DiCaprio but also Marc Strong as the head of Jordan Intelligence.
