It’s our 50th episode and the trio of Zach, Chris and Joe fill it full of tangents including the GTAness of Lights Out, Shredder’s misadventures in New Jersey, Marvel movies that need reboots, and the bi-weekly Batman news.

• Show and Tell: Joe started Justified Season Two, caught up with Lights Out and gives us the lowdown on UFC 128.  Chris revisited Rocko’s Modern Life and played through Bioshock 2 and Zach watched Paul, Broken Arrow, the 80′s “classic” Rad and Season One of Tales From the Crypt.
• News: Batman: Arkham City Trailer and Joesph Gordon-Levitt is (possibly) Alberto Falcone, David Slade directing a Daredevil reboot, Darren Aronofsky off The Wolverine, Arnold might be doing True Lies 2 and Red Dawn changes enemies from China to North Korea.  Plus the New Release Round Up.
• Special Feature: It’s the 20th Anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze this week so the guys dive into all things Turtle related including all the movies, the cartoon, video games and the original comics.

• The Room getting 3D and Blu Ray Releases: The “Rock Horror” of the naughts, The Room, is coming to theaters in 3D and on Blu Ray next year with tons of extra features, according to it’s insane star/director Tommy Wiseau.
• “Madden Curse” being developed into a movie: The supposed belief that the athlete who appears on the cover of the latest edition of Madden somehow has a terrible year afterwards is the genesis of an upcoming movie.  The supposed plot makes even less sense than that idea would imply; supposedly a professional Madden video gamer is pulled back into the world when his face appears on the bottom corner of the latest game.  WTF?
• MGM Back in Business: MGM has had a tough year but after declaring bankruptcy and restructuring, the studio is ready to get back into production with $500 million in capital to get started.  MGM has a number of completed projects that they weren’t able to release due to their bankruptcy including Jeepers Creepers 3, The Zookeeper, Bunyan and Babe and, conspicuously absent from this year, the Red Dawn remake.  MGM also has both The Hobbit and James Bond 23 that need to get going.
• Avatar the most pirated movie of 2010: Apparently people didn’t care if they saw it in 3D or not.

Terrible news came out late last night as we learned that Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer at age 57.  We have always been “Crazy for Swayze” here at Everything Action and back on the old Kick Ass Movie Podcast.  Swayze starred in huge movies of the 80′s like Ghost and Dirty Dancing but we will always love his triumvirate of action movies: Red Dawn, Point Break and Road House.  Road House in particular is one of those movies that I will always watch when it’s on AMC or the like and is just filled with bad assery and classic scenes and lines.  Another classic Swayze moment is, of course, the SNL Chippendale sketch with Chris Farley.  If this doesn’t make you hurt from laughing then you have no soul:

Taking over for C. Thomas Howell’s Robert is Josh Hutcherson who you probably most recently saw in Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D.  Isabel Lucas will take over for Lea Thompson’s Erica and she was most recently seen as the Terminatrix-lite in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  For Danny, the youngest member of the Wolverines in the original, will be played by Edwin Hodge, who’s appeared in the show Mental, as well as in Invasion and Jack and Bobby.  In the remake, Danny is the star wide reciever of the school football team and helps form the resistance with Matt and Jed.  Finally the kind of weaselly son of the Mayor, Daryl, will be played by Tom Cruise’s son Connor.  This will be his first major role but he had a small part in Seven Pounds.

If you’re a movie nerd then the answer is probably yes. In the newest issue of Toyfare (and I believe also mentioned on Slashfilm and The Totally Rad Show) a ridiculous amount of classic and cult movies came out in the year 1984.  Take a look and see if you agree.

It seems like every 80′s movie and/or cartoon is getting remade into a movie.  One of those is the communist invasion classic that is Red Dawn.  Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen led a rag tag group of teenagers to wage guerrilla warfare against the invading commies who parachuted onto their school’s football field. Entertainment Weekly found out some casting news for the remake.

In Swayze’s role is Chris Hemsworth, who was most recently seen as Papa Kirk in JJ Abrams Star Trek.  Taking over for Charlie Sheen is Josh Peck, most recently seen in The Wackness and Friday Night Light’s Adrianne Palicki is taking on the Jennifer Grey role.

In other Red Dawn news, apparently Michael Clayton, Duplicity and Bourne writer Tony Gilroy is rewriting the script for the remake.  The new movie will apparently take into account such current issues as the invasion of Iraq and the economic crisis but I wonder how they can make a Red Dawn remake without Communists?
