Last July we got the first trailer for The Amazing Spider Man and this week we got the full theatrical trailer, which is thankfully less emo than the first trailer and give the first glimpses of The Lizard.  Marc Webb of (500) Days of Summer is directing this reboot and The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield is taking over as the web slinger with Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Emma Stone and Denis Leary and Rhys Ifans co-starring.  I think everyone would have preferred a continuation of the Sam Raimi trilogy instead of going back to the origin yet again but this new trailer reveals some new stuff that could be interesting, like Peter’s father working with Dr. Connors at Oscorp and Peter being seemingly unmasked in public.  The Lizard looks pretty different from his previous incarnations and almost looks more like Killer Croc from Batman.  I’m slightly more excited for Spider-Man now than after the first trailer and will definitely check it out when it comes out.  What do you guys think of this trailer?

• Book sequel to “Drive” coming out in April: Drive, one of the most well received movies of 2011, was based on a book by author James Sallis and Sallis has finished a sequel, called “Driven”, that will continue the adventures of the unnamed wheelman/stuntman, played by Ryan Gosling in the movie.
• American Horror Story house actually for sale:  The murder magnet, ghost filled house of FX’s American Horror Story is actually for sale in the greater Los Angeles area for $4.5 million.  The house and it’s interior were used in the pilot of the show and currently an exact replica of the interior has been built at a soundstage.  Demonic gimp suits and slutty ghost maids are not included in the price.
• Green Goblin Makeup Test video from Spider Man 1:  I don’t know about you guys, but I personally cannot get enough of these abandoned special FX like the animatronic Hulk, Nicolas Cage’s Superman suit and now we have the rejected Green Goblin FX from the first Sam Raimi Spider Man movie.  We all know that they eventually went with the weird Power Rangers armor for the Green Goblin but watch this and just imagine how amazing it would have been and how they could not gone this direction.

• Avatar: Special Edition coming to iTunes with enhanced special features:  Different versions of Avatar keep coming out and the latest is coming to iTunes and will allow you to switch, on the fly, between the final cg, rough CG and original green screen footage.  It seems to be only on certain, “memorable” scenes however and will be available for $19.99 in HD and $14.99 in SD sometime next year on the iTunes music store.
• First Look at Stallone in “Bullet to the Head”:  Besides The Expendables 2, Stallone is continuing his return to action with “Bullet to the Head”, directed by Walter Hill and co-starring Jason Momoa and Christian Slater and based on a graphic novel where a hitman and cop have to team up to solve a series of grisly murders.  The first image of the movie came out this week and features Stallone battling, more than likely, Jason Momoa with fire axes.

Entertainment Weekly had a bunch of promo shots for next year’s The Amazing Spider-Man but now, before it debuts in front of Captain America this weekend, the first trailer has been released for Marc Webb’s reboot of the Spider Man franchise.  Andrew Garfield stars as Peter Parker, who seems much more emo and dark than Tobey Maguire’s take on the character.  Emma Stone plays his love interest, Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans plays Dr. Curt Connors, who gets transformed into the villainous Lizard.  Some aspects of the Spider Man story that were left out of Sam Raimi’s trilogy are back in this one including the mysterious circumstances surrounding Peter’s parents disappearance, the mechanical web shooters and Gwen Stacy being his love interest instead of Mary Jane, who was introduced later than Gwen in the comics.  Webb also looks like he’s going to be introducing some interesting visual flair to this movie as well, especially that first person sequence at the end of the trailer.  Check out the trailer below and the movie is out next summer.

In the least shocking news ever, Thor was the big winner at the box office this weekend, making $66 million.  It’s a solid opening but isn’t as good as previous Marvel movies like Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Wolverine.  It was the third highest Marvel opening for a franchise starter behind the first Iron Man and Spider-Man films.  Completely bowing to the pressure was Fast Five, which fell 62% from last week, but still stayed in second place with $32 million.  Battling for third and fourth was the pair of romantic comedies that were trying to counter program against Thor.  Something Borrowed managed to beat out Jumping the Broom with $13.7 million compared to the latter’s $13.2 million.  With Thor stealing most of it’s 3D screens, Rio fell to fifth from second with $8.2 million.  Everything else pretty much continued their downward slide off the charts.

• Jurassic Park on Blu Ray: Universal announced that Jurassic Park will finally arrive on Blu Ray this year along with it’s two sequels.
• Missile Command Movie in the works: Fox is planning a movie adaptation of the classic arcade game Missile Command.  Not much is known but I wonder what kind of story they would come up with for a game involves shooting missiles with missiles.
• Pac Man reality show?: Merv Griffin, the man behind Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune wants to develop a reality competition show based on Pac Man.  The idea is being described as a Wipeoutesque game show that will feature contestants running through mazes and getting chased by ghosts.

• Lena Headey cast as villain of Dredd: Headey, from 300 and the Sarah Connor Chronicles, will be playing Madeline Madrigal aka Ma-Ma, the leader of one of the gangs in Mega City.
• Bond 23 officially back on: Sam Mendes, director of American Beauty, Road to Perdition and Revolutionary Road, will be directing Daniel Craig in the 23rd Bond movie, which is coming out November 9, 2012.
• There was a “Batman in High School” cartoon pitched: Celeste Green and Jeffrey Thomas, a comic writing/artist team, pitched the show Gotham High to DC but it was never picked up.  The show would have followed a young Bruce Wayne in high school and all his rogues would be fellow students.  Check out an image below:

• Ang Lee built a giant Hulk robot for his Hulk movie: Ang Lee’s Hulk was a pretty disastrous adaptation of the Hulk but one thing that might have made it slightly awesome would have been if Lee had actually used this practical Hulk robot.  From the same guy who unearthed the Superman Lives suit test, check out this test footage of Robo Hulk:

• New Hulk TV show details: This week we learned that Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro is going to be a producer on ABC’s future Hulk TV show and will direct the pilot episode.  The Hulk is also going to be a mix of CG and puppetry.
• Mike White directing Pride & Predjudice & Zombies: People have been in and out of the adaptation of Seth Grahame Smith’s literary mash up but now Mike White is signed on to direct.  White doesn’t have a lot of directing experience but he has written a bunch of things including School of Rock, Orange County and a bunch of Freaks & Geeks episodes.
• Steven Soderbergh remaking The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: Another TV show is getting a modern remake as Steven Soderbergh, director of the Ocean’s series and The Informant, is remaking the 60′s spy show The Man from U.N.C.L.E.  The show followed super spy Napoleon Solo as he tried to keep America safe from the Soviets.  George Clooney is apparently interested in starring and Soderbergh wants to keep the 60′s setting.
• Denis Leary in Spider Man: Another piece of the Spider Man puzzle was added this week as Denis Leary was cast as Captain George Stacy, previously played by James Cromwell in Spider Man 3.
• Tom Hardy possibly Hugo Strange: Your weekly Batman 3 rumor, this time we have some people saying that Tom Hardy will be playing Batman rogue Hugo Strange.  Strange is a criminal genius who became obsessed with discovering who Batman actually was and actually succeeded in unmasking him and then tried to sell the identity to the highest bidder.  I don’t think any of us thought of this before but it seems like it could be a cool choice.

• Uncle Ben and Aunt May cast for Spider-Man reboot: Peter Parker’s beloved aunt and uncle have been cast for the reboot and Uncle Ben will be played by Martin Sheen while Aunt May will be played by Sally Field.
• Silent Hill sequel on the way: The first Silent Hill movie is regarded as one of the best video game movies but was kind of a box office bomb.  The studios still think there’s some potential in it however as it was announced this week that Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will be coming sometime in the future.  Mostly based on Silent Hill 3, it will follow 18 year old Heather Mason as she discovers the source of her frequent nightmares and the disappearance of her father.
• Ghostbusters 3 starting to shoot in May: Who knows what the story or cast is going to be but industry reporters Production Weekly said that the third Ghostbusters movie will begin shooting in May of next year.  There’s been all sorts of crazy rumors, possible plots, etc. over the years so hopefully if this is true we’ll get some concrete info sometime soon.
• Community gets two more episodes: Ratings haven’t been the best for our beloved Community but NBC recently ordered another two episodes for this season, bringing the total up to 24.  This is pretty good news but the Sword of Cancellation might still be over it’s head.
• Terra Nova fires entire writing staff, delayed until next fall: One of the shows I was looking forward to was Spielberg’s time traveling dinosaur show Terra Nova.  Apparently things weren’t up to snuff with the writing as the entire staff has been fired and the show won’t premiere until next fall.
• General Zod NOT in Superman: The internet is 0-2 as far as comic book movie villain casting goes.  First Chris Nolan said The Riddler is not the villain of The Dark Knight Rises and now Zack Snyder has said that General Zod will not be the villain of his Superman film.  He also said the movie takes a slightly different direction than other Superman films and it may or may not deal with his early years.

This week Zach and Joe experience ambivalence toward The Event, speculate wildly about the third Christopher Nolan Batman movie, get excited for the future of Marvel TV shows and school you about Slasher Films.

• Show and Tell: Joe watched Curb Your Enthusiasm and It’s Complicated(?) and also Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time while Zach watched The ‘Burbs and the most ridiculous episode of Masters of Horror, The Washingtonians.  Both of the guys also are still inexplicably watching The Event and Joe gives a quick preview for UFC 121.
• News: Drive Angry 3D trailer, Incredible Hulk (and other Marvel properties) coming to TV, Villains cast for Spider Man and Batman 3 and Top Gun is possibly getting a sequel.  Also the New Release Round Up.
• Slasher Films: We continue Horror Month with an in depth examination by Horror Expert Joe of the big slasher franchises like Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street and give some love to some of the more obscure gems like The Collector, for instance.

It’s been a pretty slow news week but there’s still a couple of things worth mentioning.

• Raving Rabbids TV show in the works: The popular Wii game stars are reportedly heading to TV with Aardman Animation behind them.  Aardman is the studio behind Wallace & Gromitt, among others and it’s going to be a blend of live action and CGI.
• Fourth Underworld movie coming: The Underworld franchise is seemingly as undead as it’s heroines as a fourth movie is supposedly on the way and Kate Beckinsale will be back to play Selene.
• Possible Mary Janes for Spider Man Reboot: So we already learned that Andrew Garfield will be the new Peter Park/Spider Man and this week it was announced that the two front runners for Mary Jane Watson are Mia Wasikowska and Emma Stone.
• Third Bill & Ted a strong Possibility: Keanu Reeves mentioned at the Toronto Film Festival recently that he and Alex Winter are really trying to get a third Bill and Ted movie going.  A script is being worked on and one of the possible ideas that was mentioned is exploring one of the news stories from the end of Bogus Journey, where Bill and Ted set off to play a concert on Mars.
• Final Destination 5 Plot: The plot for Final Destination 5 was revealed this week and, in an original move, a group of construction workers are saved when one of them has a psychic vision of the bridge they’re working on collapsing and then Death hunts them down one by one.
• Goodfellas TV Series Announced: With the 20th anniversary of the movie this year, it was announced that there are plans to turn the gangster classic into a TV series.
• Steve Wiebe Regains the King of Kong title: The title of King of Kong returned to it’s rightful owner as American hero Steve Wiebe managed to beat his arch nemesis’ score.  Wiebe managed to score over 1,064,500 points at the end of August, beating Billy Mitchell’s 1,062,800.
