Jumanji was finally pushed out of the top spot by the three new releases of the weekend, with Fifty Shades Freed taking the top spot but with the lowest opening for the trilogy.
After losing the top spot for a week, Jumanji reclaimed it from The Death Cure and is now Sony’s third highest grossing film ever and the 8th highest grossing release from 2017.
Jumanji was knocked down to second by the final chapter in the Maze Runner series but it continues to do huge business and is now Sony’s third highest grossing film ever, outgrossing fellow 2017 movie Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Jumanji continued it’s domination even after over a month in theaters, taking the top spot at the box office for the third weekend in a row while both of the weekend’s new action releases performed better than expectations.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle held onto the top spot for the first major weekend of 2018 while The Post did well in it’s wide expansion and The Commuter did the best of the new releases.
The first weekend of 2018 sees The Last Jedi fall out of the top spot and Jumanji surging ahead to take it while the first new release of 2018, Insidious: The Last Key, had the second best opening for the franchise.
It’s an absolute battle royale for the last big weekend of 2017 as 8 movies are either expanding or opened new for Christmas.
