The Lego Movie 2 took the top spot at the box office but it was well below studio expectations and the opening of the first Lego Movie while the other new releases, besides The Prodigy, met their studio’s expectations.
With the Super Bowl and only one new wide release this weekend, it was the worst performing weekend since September 2017, with Glass remaining on top for the third week in a row.
Although it didn’t quite meet the studio’s predictions, Glass took the top spot at the box office with M. Night’s third-best opening of all time and, surprisingly, the best ever opening for Bruce Willis.
The Upside came out much stronger than anticipated at the box office, preventing Aquaman from getting a fourth weekend at #1 but the King of Atlantis has nothing to complain about as Aquaman is now the highest grossing film of the DCEU by far and has made more worldwide than The Dark Knight.
A bunch of dramas out this weekend, ranging from possible Oscar contenders to sappy garbage, according to the critics.
2019 kicks off, as usual, with horror with Escape Room, Keanu trying to clone his family in Replicas and the highly anticipated Unbreakable/Split crossover, Glass, along with a bunch of other movies.
