Last July we got the first trailer for The Amazing Spider Man and this week we got the full theatrical trailer, which is thankfully less emo than the first trailer and give the first glimpses of The Lizard.  Marc Webb of (500) Days of Summer is directing this reboot and The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield is taking over as the web slinger with Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Emma Stone and Denis Leary and Rhys Ifans co-starring.  I think everyone would have preferred a continuation of the Sam Raimi trilogy instead of going back to the origin yet again but this new trailer reveals some new stuff that could be interesting, like Peter’s father working with Dr. Connors at Oscorp and Peter being seemingly unmasked in public.  The Lizard looks pretty different from his previous incarnations and almost looks more like Killer Croc from Batman.  I’m slightly more excited for Spider-Man now than after the first trailer and will definitely check it out when it comes out.  What do you guys think of this trailer?

Making it’s premiere at Sundance this year is director Rodrigo Cortes’ follow up to Buried with Red Lights.  Robert De Niro stars as a world famous psychic who an ambitious psychic investigator/debunker (Cillian Murphy) decides to investigate and starts experiencing all kinds of weird phenomenon.   Sigourney Weaver and Elizabeth Olsen co-star.  Cillian Murphy is always great and it looks like De Niro could be a fun, scenery chewing villain so it might be worth a look if it ever gets a wide release (Millenium apparently bought the film).  Check out the trailer below.

Bruce Willis and Henry Cavill star as father and son in the upcoming action thriller, The Cold Light of Day.  Cavill stars as a Wall Street trader who is on vacation with his family in Madrid.  He goes into town for supplies and comes back to the family’s boat to find them all gone and signs of foul play all over.  He soon learns that his father is actually a CIA agent and his family was kidnapped by people who believe that Bruce Willis’ character stole a valuable briefcase.  Sigourney Weaver co-stars as a fellow CIA agent who may or not be corrupt.  It seems very similar to Abducted with Taylor Lautner (Sigourney Weaver even co-starred in that movie) but hopefully with actors who can actually, you know, act, that it will be a decent action movie.  Check out the trailer below and the movie is out in April.

God Bless America is the latest, certain to be controversial, movie from Bobcat Goldthwait that indulges a lot of people’s secret desire to murder all the annoying assholes of pop culture, from the Kardashians to the Westboro Baptist Church to the horrible teens of My Super Sweet 16 and all the other MTV shit.  Joel Murray (Freddy Rumsen from Mad Men) stars as Frank, a man who is diagnosed with untreatable cancer and decides, since he’s going to die anyway, he might as well take down all the aforementioned horrible people with him.  He picks up a teenage girl as his sidekick and the two go on a rampage across America.  I appreciate the sentiment of the movie but it feels like an Uwe Boll movie, Postal in particular, and seems like it’s using shock as punchlines instead of actual jokes.  There’s probably going to be less horribly offensive 9/11 jokes in God Bless America.  The movie will be On Demand in April and in select theaters in May and you can check out the red band trailer below.

There was a brief teaser trailer for Lockout, the latest from Luc Besson’s company Europa, a couple months ago but now there’s a full trailer and consider me infinitely more excited.  Guy Pearce stars as Snow, a criminal who is given a chance at freedom if he goes on a mission to rescue the President’s daughter from a maximum security prison that has been taken over by the inmates.  The big catch is that the prison is a space station orbiting the Earth.  I’m hearing a lot of people making comparisons to Escape from New York and Guy Pearce to Kurt Russell and I can definitely see it along with Europa’s most recent hit, Taken.  I’m a fan of Guy Pearce and he looks like he’s gonna be a great, wise ass action hero in this.  Check out the trailer below and the movie is out in April.

The “found footage” genre is going strong in 2012 but it’s expanding beyond the horror genre.  February has the superhero/super powers movie “Chronicle” opening up and March has Project X, a found footage take on the high school party genre.  Three nerdy friends plan to throw the ultimate blowout and things quickly spiral out of control until there’s a guy with a flamethrower burning down the entire neighborhood.  The movie is produced by Todd Phillips of The Hangover and Old School and definitely has his sensibilities.  It looks like it could be OK but it all depends on how well the three main guys work together.  Check out the trailer below.

The Resident Evil movie franchise has been resembling the zombies it features by refusing to die and now the fifth entry is set to debut this fall.   Milla Jovovich returns as Alice who, according to the official plot summary but in no way clear in the trailer, is captured and taken to Umbrella’s main operations facility.  She, of course, breaks out and must fight her way through the facility.  Favorites from the game series, Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong, make their film debuts and returning characters like Jill Valentine are featured as well.  Michelle Rodriguez’s character also seemingly returns, despite getting turned into a zombie in the first movie, but there’s so much cloning and shit going on in this series that anyone could die and come back.  It looks like the same Matrix rip off action that the movie’s have always featured, so if you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll probably be excited.  Check out the trailer below.

Apparently making waves internationally, the zombie movie “The Dead” is making it’s way to the US on DVD and Blu Ray on February 14th (Zombies, the perfect Valentine’s Day gift!).  The movie was shot completely in Africa, the first horror movie to do so, and follows American military engineer Brian Murphy as he survives a plane crash and must make his way through the infected hordes of the continent.  He meets an African soldier who abandoned his unit to find his son and the two men team up to up their chances for survival.  It looks like the movie is going to have some great scenery, something that you normally don’t associate with zombie movies, and the Africa setting is a nice change of pace as well.  The zombies look pretty creepy as well. Easily the most bizarre comedy coming out in the early part of 2012 is Will Ferrell’s Casa De Mi Padre, which stars Ferrell as Armando Alvarez, a Mexican rancher taking care of his father’s ranch.  Armando’s brother, Raul, and his fiance, Sonia, arrive at the ranch with Raul claiming that his business will be able to pay off the ranch’s debts.  Things get complicated when Armando fall for Sonia and Raul running afoul of powerful Mexican crime lord Onza.  The movie will be almost completely in Spanish and in the style of all the super dramatic telenovelas The Soup is fond of highlighting. Those telenovelas are ripe for parody and Will Ferrell acting super dramatic in Spanish has to be comedy gold.  Also, Nick Offerman.  The movie is out in March and you can check out the trailer below.

David Brooks, the director of 2010′s Buried, has another “people trapped in small places” movie coming this year with ATM.  Starring Alice Eve, Josh Peck and Brian Geraghty as a trio of coworkers on their way home from an office party when one of them has to stop at a desolate ATM.  While inside, a menacing man in a parka appears outside and murders a man walking his dog and trapping the trio in the ATM.  Things quickly spiral out of control until it looks like the killer is somehow pumping water into the ATM to drown the trio.  I’m kind of a sucker for these “people trapped in places” movies like the aforementioned Buried and Phone Booth, so I’ll probably check this one out at some point.  Check out the trailer below.

Remember Epic Beard Man, the guy who got on a fight on a city bus and became an Internet folk hero?  Well next year, Danny Trejo will be playing a super fictionalized version of EBM in “Bad Ass”.  Trejo’s character gets into a scuffle with a couple of toughs on a bus and, after winning, becomes a local hero and takes the fight to the other lowlifes of the city after his friend is murdered and the police don’t seem to care.  Ron Perlman and Charles S. Dutton co-star.  It looks like a slightly less ridiculous Hobo with a Shotgun and it’s always awesome to see Danny Trejo kicking ass so we’ll probably keep an on eye on this one.  Check out the trailer below.

After much hype earlier this week, including a teaser trailer for this trailer, the first look at Prometheus has arrived.  Directed by Ridley Scott, the movie started out as a straight up prequel to Scott’s 1979 classic, Alien, but for one reason or another, the movie is being promoted as it’s own thing but kind of in the same universe as Alien.  Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Noomi Rapace star as a crew of space explorers who discover a major clue to the origin of mankind on Earth and they set out to the edge of the galaxy to investigate and, as you might expect, bad things happen.  You can definitely a bunch of Alien influences in the trailer, including the space suits, personnel carriers, slightly different looking egg sacs and a brief glimpse of what has to be the Space Jockey coming up from an underground compartment.  It’s looking pretty good and it’s cool to see Scott return to sci-fi after he’s gone through his historical epic and modern military intrigue phases.  Check out the teaser trailer below and the movie is out in June of next year.

The film adaptation of The Hobbit was in a bit of trouble early on as there was questions about who would direct, would Ian McKellan return, etc. but everything seems to have worked it self out as Sir Ian is back as Gandalf and master of Middle Earth, Peter Jackson, went back behind the camera in New Zealand to bring the Lord of the Rings prequel to life.  Martin Freeman stars as the younger Bilbo Baggins, who is recruited by Gandalf to join a company of dwarves on an adventure over the  Misty Mountains to Lonely Mountain, to reclaim a massive treasure from the dragon Smaug.  With Jackson directing, the movie definitely has the same epic look and feel and if it’s even half as good as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, we’re in for an epic time next December. Coming out in February of next year is Act of Valor, which is looking to differentiate itself from other action/war movies by featuring actual Navy SEALs “acting” in it.  The movie follows a group of Seals as they get a mission to rescue a captured CIA agent and also try to take out the terrorist group responsible.  The action seems like will be pretty good as there’s “real NAVY SEALs tactics” involved and there’s a couple of cool bits, like catching the guy in the water after sniping him but I hate the music choice for the trailer, which makes it seem like one of those weird Christian movies like Courageous or Fireproof.  Hopefully it’s nothing like that but we’ll have to wait and see.  You can check out the trailer below.

Clash of the Titans last year was a mess between one of the worst examples of post-converted 3D, a complete lack of a climactic battle and Sam Worthington at his most bland.  Next spring the completely unwanted and unnecessary sequel arrives with Battle: LA’s Jonathan Liebesman at the helm and Worthington back as Perseus.  This time the gods, weakened by an ever increasing lack of faith in them by humanity, are unable to keep the titular Titans in their prison of Mt. Tartarus and they start to escape to wreak havoc.  Ares and Hades also plot with the leader of the Titans, Kronos, to capture Zeus and imprision him in the Underworld.  Perseus must take up arms again and stop the titans and rescue Zeus.  He has help from mythological hero Andromeda, played by Rosamund Pike (replacing fellow proper British actress Gemma Arterton).  There’s really nothing in this trailer that things like God of War have already done ten times better and the super cliche use of Marilyn Manson’s cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” doesn’t help matters.  Check out the trailer below, if you want, and the movie is out in March.

It’s been a couple months since the teaser trailer for, arguably, the most anticipated movie of next year, The Dark Knight Rises but the full, first trailer debuted with Sherlock Holmes this past weekend and online today.  It’s not really clear still what the plot will entail but Bane (played by Tom Hardy) seems bent on waging war on Gotham, including unleashing some sort of seismic bomb and it’s hinted that Batman has been badly injured, possibly in a battle against Bane.  There’s also the threat of Selina Kyle/Catwoman running around, who seems to be on a mission to take down Gotham’s rich and powerful.  There’s a brief glimpse of the new Batwing at the end of the trailer as well and Marion Cotillard and Joesph Gordon Levitt being featured in the trailer implies that they are more important than the bland character descriptions would have us believe.  Overall, it looks awesome and next Summer cannot get here soon enough.  Check out the trailer below.

I don’t know what started this weird trend for next year of gritty takes on fairy tales but add Jack the Giant Killer next to Snow White and the Huntsman and, to a lesser extent, Mirror, Mirror. Directed by Bryan Singer, the movie follows Jack as he comes into possession of some magical beans and accidentally causes them to grow into a massive beanstalk that allows an ancient race of giants to come into the human’s world and reignite an ancient war.  Jack must climb the beanstalk and rescue the princess of the kingdom, who got caught in Jack’s house when it went up with the stalk.  Singer co-wrote the script with his long time collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie, and the movie stars Nicolas Hoult (Beast in X-Men: First Class) as Jack.  Singer’s last couple movies haven’t been that great but this looks like it could be a pretty good fantasty adventure.  Jack the Giant Killer is out next summer and you can check out the trailer below.

Dear god, how awesome is this movie going to be?  The first Expendables was our favorite movie of last year and is basically the thesis statement of the site so, of course, Expendables 2 is one of, if not our most, anticipated movie of next year.  The plot of Expendables 2 is that Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) has another job for The Expendables but on that job, Tool (Mickey Rourke) is killed by a rival mercenary (Jean Claude Van Damme) and The Expendables set out on a mission of revenge.  With the exception of Steven Seagal, The Expendables 2 now has pretty much every 80′s and 90′s action star with Van Damme and Chuck Norris joining the cast and Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger having bigger roles.  Liam Hemsworth and Yu Nan co-star in the movie as well.  Next August cannot come soon enough.

The original GI Joe (Rise of Cobra) was part of the one two punch of awfulness with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen that Hasbro unleashed on cinemas in 2009.  Dark of the Moon improved things decently for the Transformers series and GI Joe: Retaliation looks like it might a huge leap up from Rise of Cobra.  There’s a couple reasons I see from the trailer why this is, the most notable being that The Rock (playing Roadblock) has taken the reigns away from Channing Tatum.  Hopefully like with Fast Five this year, The Rock can add some much needed energy and bad assery into the series.  I also appreciate the fact that they seem to be going whole hog with the cliffhanger of the first movie, which had *spoilers* Zartan getting surgery and replacing the President of the United States.  It seems like his first act as President is to wipe out most of GI Joe, hence Retaliation as the subtitle.  Another positive is that it looks like there’s going to be exponentially more ninjas, which makes everything better.  Also, Bruce Willis. There’s no mention or glimpses of Cobra Commander though but hopefully if he’s in this movie, he has a more classic look than his Jason X wannabe costume from the first movie *Edit* (I’ve watched the trailer again and CC does show up in the scene where it appears Cobra has captured Snake Eyes, and, surprise, surprise, he has a Cobra Commander looking helmet on).  Check out the trailer below and the movie is out in June of next year.

After 10 years away, Agents Kay and Jay are back to police the alien scum of New York City in next summer’s Men in Black 3.  This time, Jay has to time travel when an evil alien goes back in time and kills Kay in 1969.  Upon arriving in 1969, Jay has to team up and protect young Kay (played by Josh Brolin) and find the alien assassin while meeting a bunch of 60′s celebrities like Andy Warhol.  It looks like typical MIB action with tons of slick gadgets and weird aliens and Josh Brolin seems like he’s going to be absolutely dead on as young Tommy Lee Jones.  My only question is whether we’ll get a new Will Smith rap song in the vein of “Men in Black” and “Nod Ya Head (Black Suits Comin’)”.  Check out the trailer below and the movie is out on June 1, 2012.
