• James Spader the new CEO of Dunder Mifflin Sabre: Stealing a lot of the show during The Office’s season finale was James Spader as a creepily effective salesman who was up for the job of Dunder Mifflin manager.  It was revealed this week that Spader will be a part of The Office but actually taking over the role that Kathy Bates has had as CEO of Sabre.  There’s still no word about who will be the new manager.
• Uncharted gets a new director and script: With David O. Russell and his horrible sounding family drama version of the brilliant Uncharted series of games leaving the project a few weeks ago, Neil Burger, who most recently directed Limitless, has signed on to direct and also help rewrite the script.  Burger also directed The Illusionist.
• Paramount creating animation studio: Paramount is probably one of the most powerful movie studios right now, with the Marvel movies, Transformers and more.  Now Paramount has decided to enter the animated market by announcing they will open a CG animation studio with their first movie being released in 2014.  Paramount has previously been the distribution arm for Dreamworks Animation and their contract is set to expire at the end of next year.  This year actually had a possible taste of what a Paramount animation studio could have with Rango.
• Space Invaders optioned for a movie: Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, producer extraordinaire behind GI Joe, Transformers, Red and Salt, has optioned the classic arcade/Atari game Space Invaders for a movie.  Space Invaders didn’t have a plot so it’s pretty much open to anything they want to do but I don’t see how this could be anything other than a generic alien invasion movie.
• Ray Stevenson cast as Firefly in GI Joe 2:  More casting news from GI Joe 2: Cobra Strikes (really with that subtitle?)  as former Punisher and member of the Warriors Three, Ray Stevenson has been cast as evil Cobra mercenary Firefly, a ninja and explosives expert who is frequently hired by Cobra Commander for attacks.
• Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomi Harris all confirmed for Bond 23: A couple months ago we heard that either Ralph Fiennes or Javier Bardem were in talks to play the villain of next year’s Bond 23 but now it’s been confirmed that both of them will be in the movie, although who they would be playing is not known.  I think it would be awesome if Bardem was the main villain and Fiennes was revealed as possibly the Blofeldesque head of Quantum.  Naomi Harris, probably best known as Tia Dalma from the Pirates movies, has been cast as the re imagining of classic Bond character Miss Moneypenny.
• The movie formerly known as Headshot gets additional cast, loses Tom Jane:  We’ve been greatly interested in Stallone’s upcoming movie, Headshot, since it got announced months ago but there’s been some big shakeups with it in the last month or so.  Firstly, it got a title change but a new title has not been announced yet and secondly, and disappointingly, Tom Jane left the project.  A whole slew of casting news got released today with Sung Kang of the Fast & Furious series taking over for Jane and Christian Slater, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Sarah Shahi, Jason Momoa and Holt McCallany all joining the movie.

• New Riddick movie might start shooting this Summer: Vin Diesel recently posted on his Facebook page that he’s gotten word from the director/writer of the third movie in the Riddick franchise that they can start shooting the movie this summer but to make it they way they want to (hard R), Vin will have to work for scale.
• Tony and Ridley Scott producing a Pirates mini series for Fox: Trying to cash in on all that Pirates of the Caribbean money, Tony and Ridley Scott will be producing a 10-13 episode mini series for Fox called Pyrates that will recount the story of one of the largest pirate thefts in history, the pillaging of the Spanish silver fleet in 1628.  F/X is also jumping on the Pirates bandwagon with their upcoming show Port Royal.
• Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds co-starring in RIPD: Jeff Bridges was cast this week in RIPD, based on a Dark Horse comic series about supernatural law enforcement agents. Zach Galifinakis was originally set to co-star with Ryan Reynolds but backed out.  RIPD stands for Rest in Peace Department and Reynolds will be playing a recently killed cop who is recruited into the RIPD and partnered with veteran member Bridges.  If Reynolds gives the RIPD 100 years of service, he’ll be able to get some vengeance on the man who killed him.
• David O Russell and his horrible sounding Uncharted script leave the project: Fans of the Uncharted series of games can breathe a sigh of relief this week as David O Russell and his crazy “family of antiquities dealers” script have left the Uncharted movie.  Sony also revealed the project is getting completely overhauled and Mark Wahlberg is no longer starring.
• The Lion King getting a 3D re-release, 3D Blu Ray this Fall: One of Disney’s most beloved animated movies, The Lion King, is getting a Blu Ray release this October and Disney is converting the movie to 3D a la Beauty and the Beast.  The movie is also getting re-released into theaters with it’s shiny new 3D conversion.  I think certain sequences, like the wildebeest chase, could be amazing in 3D.
• Jessica Biel playing Rachel in Total Recall: The Total Recall remake cast is pretty much set as Jessica Biel has been cast as Rachel, the “slutty, athletic brunette” that Quaid meets on Mars.
• The Wolverine Director Short List: With Darren Aronofsky having to leave The Wolverine, a new director short list has emerged.  The directors being considered are Jose Padilha, Doug Liman, Antoine Fuqua, Mark Romanek, Justin Lin, Gavin O’Connor, James Mangold, Gary Shore.  Gary Shore seems super excited about possibly directing the movie, as he made a motion comicesque clip entitled “Wolverine vs The Hand”.

This week Zach, Joe and Brian attempt what might possibly be the first ever Leonard Maltin game over Skype and also discuss the latest episode of the Walking Dead, the brilliance of Stallone commentaries and the probable clusterfuck of the Uncharted movie.

• Show and Tell: Brian watched the latest Walking Dead (as we all did), Joe watched Dexter and Faster and Zach watched Stargate.
• News: Source Code trailer, mysterious Neill Blomkamp video from Wired, Uncharted movie news and Gore Verbinski directing The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp as Tonto and RIP Leslie Nielsen.  Also a pretty light New Release Round Up.
• The Leonard Maltin Game: Created by comedian Doug Benson on his Doug Loves Movies podcast, the Leonard Maltin game is the ultimate trivia test for movie fans.  Kind of like Name that Tune except with cast members instead of notes, Joe and Zach battle mano e mano through Brian’s three themed categories (Jeff Bridges, and the late Leslie Nielsen and Irvin Kershner)

• Buffy reboot in the works: Causing nerd aneurysms this week was the news that Warner Brothers is going to be making a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie but not based on the cult Joss Whedon series or the original Kristy Swanson movie.
• Mysterious Neill Blomkamp Teaser: From the digital version of the latest issue of Wired came this crazy viral/teaser video for what is possibly Neill Blomkamp’s next movie.  The video shows a pair of guys stopping on the side of the road to check out the carcass of some sort of mutant animal with “AGM Heartland” stamped on it.  I’m assuming AGM Heartland is going to be a fake company that they’ll use to promote the film in the same way Lost had the Dharma Initiative and Cloverfield had Slusho.  You can check out the video below:

• Underworld 4 plot synopsis: The fourth Underworld movie (now subtitled New Dawn) finds Kate Beckinsale’s Selene waking up after 15 years and finding out she has a lycan/vampire daughter named Nissa and that an evil company named BioCom wants to create a breed of super Lycans.
• Gore Verbinski directing The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp: Gore Verbinksi, director of the Pirates franchise, is re-teaming with Johnny Depp and Jerry Bruckheimer for an adaptation of the classic pulp hero The Lone Ranger.  Depp will play the Lone Ranger’s sidekick Tonto and no word about who will play the Ranger himself.
• Uncharted movie gets star and possible co-stars: Uncharted has been in development as a movie for a while and it was finally announced who would play “devil may care” hero Nathan Drake and it’s Mark “Say hi to your mother for me” Wahlberg.  David O. Russell is writing/directing and Wahlberg said they’re trying to get Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro to co-star as Nate’s father and uncle.  I’m extremely worried because Russell has been talking some serious crap about the game, saying it has no story and they’re only going to be vaguely related.  Nathan Fillion and Bruce Campbell should have been cast as Drake and Sully respectively and it should just be a fun, modern Indiana Jones but now it’s some sort of weird antiquity dealing crime thing.
• Hangover 2 plot revealed: Wondering how the Hangover gang was going to wind up in Bangkok?  Well they’re there for Stu’s (Ed Helms) wedding and he wants to play it safe with no bachelor party, just a pre-wedding brunch.  Of course, shit gets crazy.
• The Thing Prequel gets a release date: The prequel to The Thing has been delayed but the new release date was announced this week and it will be out on October 14, 2011.

The Uncharted movie is being written by Kyle Ward.  Ward also wrote the script for a movie adaptation of the game Kane and Lynch, a Heatesque action/crime game.  He is also set to write a script for Hitman 2.  Yes, you heard right, a sequel to the absolutely atrocious Hitman.  I don’t remember that movie making that much movie but apparently it made enough to warrant a sequel.  No word on whether Timothy Olyphant will be back as Agent 47 but I kind of hope not as he was not the slighest bit intimidating or believable as the bald assassin.
