This weekend we have Monster vs. Aliens vs. Ghosts vs. John Cena for box office supremacy.  Let’s see how they all fared.

Monsters vs. Aliens

Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Hugh Laurie, Rainn Wilson

Directed by: Conrad Vernon & Rob Letterman

Plot: When aliens invade the Earth it’s up to a bunch of misfit monsters to save the day.

Rotten Tomatoes Freshness: 70%

Critic Consensus:  “Though it doesn’t approach the depth of the best animated films, Monsters Vs. Aliens has enough humor and special effects to entertain moviegoers of all ages.”

The Haunting in Connecticut

Starring: Virginia Madsen, Kyle Gallner, Martin Donovan, Elias Koteas

Directed by: Peter Cornwell

Plot: A family moves into a new home, which used to be the home of terrible events, and are plagued by horrifying occurances.

RT Freshness: 20%

Critic Consensus: “Though it features a few scares and some creepy atmosphere, The Haunting in Connecticut ultimately relies too much on familiar horror cliches to achieve its goals.”

12 Rounds

Starring: John Cena, Aidan Gillen, Ashley Scott

Directed by: Renny Harlin

Plot:  A thief tries to exact revenge on Detective Danny Baxter by sending him through 12 rounds of challenges to save his wife’s life.

RT Freshness: 50%

ABC Radio: “Cinematically this is by-the-book multicam crash-and-burn spectacle that lacks originality but has spades of energy and a few truly suspenseful moments. Doesn’t quite make it worth your time, though.”
