After a bunch of starts and stops it looks like Masters of the Universe is back on for a new movie adaptation. Warner Brothers originally held the rights to the toy line and John Stevenson, who directed Kung Fu Panda, was set to direct but they cancelled it in September of last year. Now, Columbia Pictures has acquired the rights and have hired Predators writers Mike Finch and Alex Litvak to write the script. Masters of the Universe has always been kind of a goofy property and it’s unclear what direction Finch and Litvak are going to go in but they say they, “Attempted to balance a treatment that would convince the studio it was cinematic and keep the toy company satisfied that its characters were being portrayed appropriately” I think they have their work cut out for them, especially since EA favorite and all around entertainment machine Dolph Lundgren couldn’t save the original movie version:
I’m like the J. Jonah Jameson of Everything Action, writing and editing and constantly demanding pictures of Spider-Man.
