The Hunger Games Trailer

After the very definition of a “teaser” trailer at the VMAs earlier this year, the first full trailer for The Hunger Games debuted online today.  In case you’re not familiar with the extremely popular trilogy of books, The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who lives in the country of Panem, which rose up from the ashes of North America after an implied nuclear war.  Panem is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol, who rules the districts with an iron fist.  Because of a failed uprising, every year the districts must send a boy and girl to compete the titular games, which is a battle to the death with the winner gaining wealth for themselves and their district.  Katniss volunteers to compete in the games to save her younger sister, Prim, from competing. The cast includes  Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz and I like the look of the Capitol and the squalor of District 12. We don’t get a look at the action in the arena during the games and I’m wondering how toned down it’s going to be from the books (there were some brutal kills in what’s ostensibly a young adult series).  The main thing I’m hoping is that they aren’t going to Twilightify the series.  Check out the trailer below and the movie is out in March.
