  • Lobo being directed and rewritten by the director of Cats & Dogs 2: Lobo, the DC alien bounty hunter/biker anti hero, has been trying to make his way to the big screen for years but DC and Warner Bros. have put the project back into gear and have hired Brad Peyton, director of Cats & Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and Journey to the Center of Earth 3D, to direct and write it.
  • Guy Pearce cast in Iron Man 3Last week we found that Ben Kingsley will be the main villain of Iron Man 3 and this week we learned that Guy Pearce will be starring in the movie as well.  Pearce will play Aldritch Killian, a character from the Extremis storyline who is a geneticist who helps create the Extremis nano virus.
  • Rupert Wyatt directing “Agent 13” with Charlize Theron:  Rise of the Planet of the Apes director, Rupert Wyatt, will be directing an upcoming sci fi/action movie called “Agent 13” with Charlize Theron starring. Hopefully it’s better than Aeon Flux.
  • Francis Lawrence picked as director of “Catching Fire”With Hunger Games director, Gary Ross, stepping down, Francis Lawrence has been chosen to direct the sequel, Catching Fire.  Lawrence has previously directed such movies as Constantine, I Am Legend and Water for Elephants.
  • Barry Sonnenfeld says MIB3 closes the trilogy, opens door for a reboot: Doing the first round of interviews for MIB3, director Barry Sonnenfeld said that MIB3 closes out the trilogy featuring Agents K and J, answers a number of questions and leaves the door open for a reboot of the franchise.  Whether this means new agents taking over is unclear.
  • Nicolas Winding Refn producing a remake of Maniac Cop:  Coming off the critical success of Drive, director Nicolas Winding Refn is going to be producing a remake of the late 80’s/early 90’s cult series starring Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins and Robert Z’Dar about an insane, vigilante cop.
  • Disney developing a hybrid animated/live action “Mr Toad’s Wild Ride” movie:  Widely considered one of the best rides at Disneyland, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is based on a segment from the Disney movie “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad”, which was in turn based on The Wind in the Willows.  Pete Candeland has been attached to direct and Tron: Legacy producer, Justin Springer, will produce.  The movie will be a hybrid of CG animation and live action.
  • Nacho Vigalondo’s “Exterrestrial” will be out in JuneNacho Vigalondo, director of Timecrimes, has his latest movie, Exterrestrial, coming out on June 15th in select theaters and VOD.  The movie is a screwball comedy set during an alien invasion.
  • Darren Aronofsky shopping George Washington biopic, The General, to studios: There’s two Abraham Lincoln movies coming out this year but Darren Aronofsky is more interested in our first president with his “Unforgiven like” biopic of George Washington called, The General.  Aronofsky is currently shopping the movie around to the studios but he’s also working on the biblical epic, Noah, starring Russell Crowe, so it could be awhile before The General gets rolling.
  • Silent Hill: Revalation 3D coming this Halloween: The sequel to the pretty positively regarded Silent Hill movie, Revelation 3D, is coming this Halloween to a theater near you. Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean will be reprising their roles and Solomon Kane director Michael J Bassett is directing.
  • Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes in danger of being cancelled: One of the greatest superhero cartoons, period, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is in danger of being cancelled because it’s ratings are apparently not what Marvel was expecting.  The word is that after this current second season of the show, a new version more tied into the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon will be debuting.  If you have even a passing interest in the Marvel universe, you owe it to yourself to go watch this show, it’s on par with beloved superhero cartoons like 90’s X-Men and Batman: TAS.
  • Disney announces over 30 movies new to Blu Ray coming this year:  Disney announced a slew of movies from itself and it’s various underling studios coming to Blu Ray this year including such films as Pocahontas, Arachnophobia, Judge Dredd, Dick Tracy, Ed Wood, The Aristocats, The Color of Money, Ransom and Cocktail.
  • Need for Speed being developed into a movie:  The long running video game racing series Need for Speed is being developed into a movie from Dreamworks.  There’s no details about plot, director or casting but how will this movie not be anything other than a Fast and Furios rip off?
