  • Luther returns on Sept. 3rd: One of our favorite British cops, John Luther, is back on BBC America on Sept. 3rd for a four episode 3rd season.
  • Tom Cruise drops The Man from UNCLECruise was signed on to play Napoleon Solo in the remake of the classic 60’s show but has now dropped out due to Mission Impossible 5.  Armie Hammer is still signed on to play Illya Kuryakin and Guy Ritchie is still signed on to direct and the movie is supposed to start shooting later this year.
  • Universal Orlando opening a Simpsons section of the parkAlong with expanding The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Studios is also creating another themed area with a Simpsons themed area based on Springfield.  The park already has the 3D Simpsons ride and will add a Kang and Kodos inspired ride called the Twirl and Hurl.  Guests will also be able to visit locations like the Kwik E Mart, Krusty Burger and Moe’s Tavern, which will have Duff Beer specially brewed for the park.
  • Quicksilver will appear in both Avengers 2 and X-Men: Days of Future PastEvan Peters, of American Horror Story, will be playing Quicksilver in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Because of his ties to both the Avengers and the X-Men, Quicksilver will also be appearing with his sister, Scarlet Witch, in Avengers 2, but with a different actor and it will not link the X-men and Avengers/Marvel Cinematic universes, as cool as that would be.
  • New details reveal Poltergeist remake could actually be a sequelThe remake of the classic horror movie Poltergeist has been moving along and some new plot details revealed this week make it seem like it might actually be a sequel.  It will follow a family who moves into a new house and horrific things start happening but the interesting thing is that it seems like the family might be moving into the house from the original movie, as the family finds some iconic possessions of the Freelings  in the wall of the house.
  • Universal developing a Timecop rebootOne of the greatest movies in the JCVD canon is the 1994 classic, Timecop.  Now Universal is looking to totally remake the movie and is currently getting pitches from writers.  Hopefully JCVD will be involved in some way but right now it seems very unlikely.
  • Steven Spielberg developing Halo TV SeriesOne of the big things revealed at the Xbox One event earlier this week was the fact that Steven Spielberg will be working with current Halo studio, 343, to create a live action TV show based on the series.  It’s not clear whether this will be an exclusive program on the Xbox Marketplace or actually on a network but most of the live action Halo commercials and the recent “Forward Unto Dawn” web series have been incredibly well made, so I’m interested.
  • Paul Verhoeven wants to direct Arnold in Legend of ConanA director we unfortunately haven’t heard from in a while, Paul Verhoeven, has expressed interest in reuniting with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the upcoming Conan sequel, The Legend of Conan.  The two collaborated previously on, of course, Total Recall and Verhoeven has also brought us such action classics as Robocop and Starship Troopers.
  • Assassin’s Creed coming in Summer 2015Looking to potentially be the first great video game movie, Assassin’s Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, is coming on May 22nd, 2015.  Fassbender is set to play modern day protagonist Desmond Miles but it’s still not clear if he will also play any of Miles’ ancestors or if another actor will play them.
  • New Star Wars cartoon coming to Disney XDAlmost immediately after they bought the license, Disney announced it would be ending the Clone Wars cartoon.  This week they announced that they will be bringing a new Star Wars cartoon to Disney XD, called Star Wars Rebels, that will take place between Episodes III and IV.  The show will be run by Clone Wars producer, Dave Filoni, and Gargoyles and Young Justice producer, Greg Weisman.  The show’s art style is supposed to be influenced by the fantastic, original concept art by Ralph McQuarrie.
