Coming just in time for Halloween is producer Guillermo Del Toro and director Jorge Guitterez’s vision of the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday with The Book of Life. When two suitors vie for the lovely Maria, two gods make a wager on the outcome. When it appears like the charming Manolo will win, he’s bitten by a poisonous snake and sent to the Land of the Dead, where he must complete three tasks in order to see Maria again. Diego Luna stars as Manolo, Channing Tatum is his rival, Joaquin and Zoe Saldana plays Maria. Ron Perlman, Danny Trejo, Christina Applegate and Ice Cube also co-star. The animation style is incredibly unique, with everyone looking like wooden puppets and it calls to mind games like Grim Fandango and Guacamelee, both of which also used the Day of Dead motif. The movie is out on October 17th and you can check out the trailer below.
I’m like the J. Jonah Jameson of Everything Action, writing and editing and constantly demanding pictures of Spider-Man.
